bp partners with tech leader Microsoft
I’m excited to announce a new strategic partnership between bp and Microsoft. Building on our existing relationship, it will see us move from being customers to partners – combining our expertise to drive digital innovation in energy, accelerate progress towards our sustainability goals and help the world decarbonize.
As we set out earlier this year, as well as reshaping our own business, it’s our strategic intent to partner with countries, cities and industries as they chart their paths to reach net zero and support a more sustainable future.
Microsoft is a good example of a high tech corporate we are working closely with, aligned to bp in many ways. We both have ambitious carbon reduction goals, we both want to decarbonize operations and value chains through technology and we both want to help the world accelerate on the path to net zero. For both bp and Microsoft, low carbon is part of a wider sustainability agenda that we aim to collaborate on further in the future.
I’m excited about what we’re starting to deliver with this partnership. We’ve extended our agreement to use Microsoft Azure cloud services – giving us access to a host of tools, including machine learning and data analytics. And we’ve signed a framework agreement with the aim of supplying Microsoft with renewable energy for their key data centres – something that also aligns with our sustainability framework priority to provide more clean energy for more people.

5yCongratulations, William. Since I moved away from E&P, I've come to realize that E&P while employing the most advanced technologies in its operations is relatively behind other industries in terms of IT applications. This partnership with Microsoft will certainly gives BP the competitive edge it needs to thrive through the transformation.
