🎤 Spotlight: financing city-level climate action 

Cities – home to more than half of the world’s population and responsible for over 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions – need finance to unlock their full climate potential.  

Last month, Katie Walsh, CDP’s Head of Climate Finance for Cities, States, and Regions and North America Lead, sat down with Louie Woodall of Climate Proof, to address how we can meet the US$86 billion climate finance gap that cities are facing.

CDP- ICLEI Track disclosure leads to greater investment from the public and private sector for climate action in cities, by putting cities’ environmental data into the right hands for decision-making.   

🌍CDP and WWF Cities are teaming up for the #OnePlanetCityChallenge (OPCC) in 2025!

To participate and receive reporting benefits, including a private CDP score, cities must report their climate actions, strategies and data on CDP-ICLEI Track by the CDP scoring deadline September 17. OPCC cities will be offered a free detailed feedback report on how to improve their actions over time.

At London Climate Action Week ek, CDP CEO Sherry Madera sat down with Nick Studer , CEO of Oliver Wyman for a high-level discussion on disclosure and the Corporate Health Check, released in partnership with Oliver Wyman earlier this year.  

The Corporate Health Check showed achieving ambition is more than possible, with companies across the UK (15%) and the EU (17%) being ahead in their ambition setting for five critical climate and nature areas: disclosure, target setting, governance, strategy and progress – compared to 10% of companies globally.
