Celebrating 10 years of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan

Celebrating 10 years of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan

This week marks 10 years since we set out our bold ambition to change the way we do business for good by launching the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. Although COVID-19 continues to impact the world as we know it, the virus is not the only global crisis we face - issues around the climate emergency and social inequality are as urgent.

We’ve made a significant impact on the people, communities and the environment where we operate. Specifically within our Supply Chain I’m proud to share that, at the end of 2019, we:

  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions from our own manufacturing by 50%
  • Achieved 100% renewable grid electricity across our sites
  • 25 sites reached carbon neutral status
  • Achieved zero waste to landfill across all our factories
  • Sourced 62% of our agricultural raw materials sustainably
  • Enabled more than 790,000 smallholder farmers in our supply network to improve agricultural practices
  • Addressed safety as the most fundamental right and enabler for women’s wellbeing, economic inclusion and advancement. By partnering with expert external organisations such as UN Women and IDH we have increased the uptake of safety programmes in global tea chains.

Thank you to everyone who has been on the journey with us so far. It doesn’t end here however. We are wholeheartedly committed to building on this progress and driving further change for generations to come. Continuing to set and deliver ambitious commitments that care for both people and the planet.
