Celebrating 22 years at Microsoft

Celebrating 22 years at Microsoft

This month, I celebrated my 22nd anniversary at Microsoft! It's humbling to look back on the depth and breadth of my time here - I have had the unique opportunity to experience many facets of this business, from field to corp., devices to retail, to serving as Chief of Staff to Satya Nadella, and now leading our software development company engagement strategy.

To say I have learned a lot throughout these last two decades would be the understatement of the year. Too many pearls of wisdom to list, but here are three learnings I keep coming back to:

Embracing the bigger picture: systems thinking

Over the years, I have come to deeply respect that time is a finite resource. By embracing incremental habits and intentional changes within systems thinking, I have learned the importance of making every moment count.

Each decision today forms the foundation for future outcomes, so it's crucial to use time wisely to create the impact you want.

A lifelong quest: curiosity and knowledge

Curiosity has been a driving force in my journey. Every experience offers a lesson, and this quest for knowledge has guided my path. Seeking knowledge beyond my initial inclinations and learning from others has allowed me to navigate complexities and foster innovation. I have observed that great leaders continuously pursue knowledge and demonstrate a commitment to growth and understanding.

There is always more to learn and ways to refresh our mental models.

Appreciating others' journeys: empathy and connections

I have found that adopting an empathic view is essential. Appreciating others' journeys and acknowledging their paths has enriched my understanding. Keeping an open mind and valuing the connections I have made have been among the most gratifying aspects of my roles.

Looking back, the most memorable moments are the connections made with others and the impacts they have had on my life.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to have “grown up” at a place that has taught me so much, allowed me to learn from so many great people, and work with such diverse and interesting customers and partners. I am energized for the next 22. 🤪
