Mission Innovation had quite the year in 2023! We've seen incredible progress across our Missions, from tackling green energy to revolutionizing urban transitions. As we look back on some of the triumphs of the past year, it's clear that together, we're driving change in the world of clean energy. Here's to more innovation, collaboration, and exciting discoveries ahead!
- Unveiled the National Pilots Report, which details 80 ongoing or planned national pilot projects from 12 countries that each tackle one or more of the 50 most urgent Innovation Priorities identified in the GPFM.
- Launched the demo version of the GPFM Toolbox, an innovative knowledge-sharing platform that will allow countries to select and customize innovative power solutions based on their geography, system conditions and strategies.
- Honored outstanding contributors to global industrial decarbonization with the MI Net-Zero Industries Award. Receiving nearly 70 submissions from 16 countries showcased the world's commitment to decarbonizing heavy industry.
- Organized a bilateral funding call in 2024 with €12M/AUD$20M for collaborative industrial decarbonization projects between Austria and Australia.
- Doubled participation in the UTM City Cohort, with 49 new cities joining to work together and receive support on testing, piloting, and scaling up innovative solutions for a holistic, people-centered urban transition.
- Identified 90 hydrogen valleys across 34 countries, closing in on our goal of 100 hydrogen valleys. These multi-million dollar projects in regions around the world will demonstrate innovative hydrogen value chains and build scale for different end-use sectors, driving down the cost of clean hydrogen.
- Held a series of webinars for Latin American based organisations and governments promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange on hydrogen valleys.
- Identified 22 pilot-scale and demo projects in 2023 to support data and information sharing, as part of members' commitments under the CDR Launchpad. CDR demo projects are critical for proving emerging technologies, reducing technical risk, and driving down costs.
- Released a beta version of the CDR Mapping Initiative, an interactive tool to enhance awareness of the global CDR landscape. Stay tuned as new datasets are added in the future!
