Celebrating National AccessAbility Week 2023

Celebrating National AccessAbility Week 2023

Each year, National Accessibility Week is an opportunity to celebrate the valuable contributions and leadership of Canadians with disabilities, highlight the work of people, organizations and communities that are removing barriers, and reflect on ongoing efforts to become a better, more accessible, more inclusive Canada.

At Motion, our work is focused on making life accessible for everyone through life-changing mobility and accessibility equipment – equipment that allows someone to go grocery shopping independently, safely access public healthcare, enjoy the outdoors and the hobbies they love, go to school, participate in community programs, visit the remote communities they grew up, and so much more. These activities are human rights, and our teams play a critical role in enabling our clients to participate in society as an equal citizen – a society where independence, safety, accessibility, and inclusion thrives.

In 2023 and beyond, we are continually dedicated to providing an exceptional client experience when someone purchases, rents or requires service to their equipment, but we’re also focused on executing priorities outlined in Motion’s Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. These actions include identifying a targeted outreach strategy to recruit job seekers with disabilities, regularly auditing our spaces to ensure accessibility for everyone entering our facilities, welcoming new Client Ambassadors to share their lived experiences, building accessibility awareness through new educational materials available on our online learning portal for both employees and care partners, playing a role in promoting accessibility awareness and advocacy with our government and funding partners, promoting the availability of documents in accessibility formats for all stakeholders, ensuring that all digital services are designed with accessibility in mind, and so much more.

I am so proud to lead a company that is making a difference in the lives of so many Canadians and that has an unwavering focus on making life accessible for everyone. I can say with confidence that our collective actions – both small and large – are making this possible. This National Accessibility Week, wear red to spread awareness, get involved with organizations that are making an impact, and have your voice heard in support of the importance of accessibility and inclusion for all.
