CEO Note: Join Us to Celebrate 70 Years

CEO Note: Join Us to Celebrate 70 Years

Dear Partners and Friends,

This fall, the Greater Baltimore Committee turns 70—and we invite you to celebrate the moment with us.

Join us on Friday, September 12 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel.

This milestone reflects more than an anniversary—it reflects the role we’ve played in shaping the region’s economy, and the responsibility we carry moving forward.

Over the past two years, GBC has launched all 12 initiatives of our Multi-Year Agenda, restructured our governance, and integrated UpSurge Baltimore, the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, and BLocal into the GBC family—strengthening our position as the best positioned business-civic leadership organization for advancing the Baltimore Region's future.

But our recent story is only the latest chapter in a much deeper legacy. GBC’s 70-year history builds on more than 170 years of economic leadership in Baltimore. In 1977, the city’s original Chamber of Commerce—founded in 1853—merged with GBC, bringing together generations of civic ambition and business leadership under one roof. That history continues to shape the work we carry forward today.

This year’s Annual Meeting will reflect that journey—and the work still to come. We’re transforming the evening into a living museum of the Baltimore Region’s business history. The program will feature:

  • A walk through history – highlighting the milestones that shaped the region’s economy.

  • A reflection on legacy – and a recommitment to the work ahead.

  • A civic gathering – uniting public and private leaders in shared purpose.

  • An innovation gallery – previewing the Baltimore Region’s future as a growing hub for technology and investment.

Tickets and Sponsorship: Each GBC Partner Organization will receive one complimentary ticket to ensure your presence at this milestone event.

If your organization is aligned with our mission, we welcome your support as a sponsor. This is an opportunity to be visible, engaged, and part of the next phase of Baltimore’s economic story. To learn more, contact events@gbc.org.

For 70 years, GBC has helped steer the economic direction of the Baltimore Region—not as a service provider, but as a convener, a catalyst, and a voice for what comes next.

This is a pivotal moment for GBC—not just to reflect on the past, but to continue shaping our future. We look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Mark Anthony Thomas
