Check your surroundings!
Where are you reading this?
I'd bet money its not a roller disco, or a nightclub, or a Cappadocia hot air balloon.
Unless you're doing it to spite me directly, or you're some crazy outlier, one's surroundings generally guide their thinking patterns, and in none of these settings whatsoever, is a person naturally inclined to open and read a LinkedIn article.
In most cases, we choose our surroundings.
Where to eat, where to study, where to take breaks, go for leisure, take friends, and where to be alone.
I would argue that these places, chosen for ourselves, are a reflection of who we are, and who we want to be.
These can all be argued on the basis of complex human condition, but again, in most cases this is true.
So why should you care?
The power of carefully selecting where you spend your time cannot be understated.
Why do people migrate to America, or pay fortunes to study at Ivy League schools?
People place themselves where they're most likely to succeed.
Location is a filter.
A filter for culture, for influences, community, resources, opportunities, energy, and the common archetype of the people you'll come across.
The thing is, filters have no purpose without a goal.
When an environment is distinct, well selected, and chosen with a goal in mind, the desired behaviour can be natural or effortless upon entry.
Goal setting is not always about what goals to reach, but where to reach for them.
If you want to fuel your entrepreneurial spirit, immerse yourself in the nearest incubator.
If you want to get better at drawing, take an art class.
If you want to be more calm and flexible, sign up for hot yoga.
If you want to quit drinking, avoid the bars.
If you want to make friends, join a club of personal interest.
If you want to grow your professional network, go to networking events.
