Is Climate Change the Religion of Our Time?
Religion is defined as "the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power." What is the controlling power of our time? Obviously, climate change is the most important topic that has ever existed. How do I know this fact? Because every politician, every news source, Hollywood A-listers, and even social media tells us that climate change is the defining problem of our time. World leaders and their staffs totaling more than 20,000 people will travel by plane with their vast motorcades to Glasgow to "solve this problem" for all humanity.
Climate change is apparently so ominous that these world leaders will knowingly contribute to the problem in order to meet in person versus using a Zoom call. Look, if temperatures are rising then surely humans along with their continuous need for protein like cows and pigs are certainly contributing to it. Now, I do not deny that temperatures are rising because scientists tell us the planet is warming. When I was in elementary school in the 1970's the scientists told us the planet was cooling. I was a kid then so I didn't know what to believe, but the one thing I certainly learned from COVID is that I should trust all scientists. (NOTE: Scientists are never wrong until a later generation proves them incorrect, but by then, the current scientists are all dead.)
However, can climate change really be responsible for EVERYTHING? Well today, the Weather Channel reported that climate change is making us sicker. Really? I thought we were more sickly due to our sedentary lifestyle combined with processed foods that the WHO stated has caused obesity to triple worldwide since 1975. The CDC's Dec 2020 report with tables updated Jan 2021 states that 42.8% of Americans are obese and 9.6% are severely obese.
I'm simply saying that climate change is truly amazing. It explains literally everything from wealth inequality and income distribution, from too much rain in some states yet too little rain in others, too hot in some countries, yet too cold in other parts of the world. It explains tsunami's, hurricanes, and tornados, yet has not been attributed to any volcanic disruptions that I can find.
Again, I don't disagree the planet is warming. However, when one topic seems to explain nearly every topic, issue and problem of humanity, then that topic has been elevated to religious status. In other words, our new God is climate change. You can come to its alter with your mind, but you cannot drink the water or breath the air.

3yThe climate crisis has de-escalated since the 1970’s. Anyone old enough to remember “smog” knows this is true. Johnny Carson did nightly jokes about our intense pollution at the time. I literally could not breath when playing Football games in Channelview. Football games were often canceled because of pollution.

3yI agree that this has taken on tremendous importance in all aspects of life. The US had decreased their emissions by government regulations. Many countries wear mask due to the pollution. I always wonder why volcanoes and forest fire (California and the Amazon) are not listed as major contributors in the scientific community. Also, the Earth is not a static entity. It changes and evolves constantly. Read history. Some things will change despite our interventions. Our world politicians feel exempt. I agree. With so many socioeconomic issues facing us at this time, we need to hold the countries with no government regulations responsible, and ourselves.
