Climate Change - A Threat To Human Existance

Climate Change - A Threat To Human Existance

If we want to mitigate climate change, we need to think about the who's, why's, when's and how's of climate change. Let's answer all those questions now.

What is climate change?

Climate change is the change in the seasons we experience every year, due to increase in the average global temperature rise of the planet. Winters are no more as cold as they were in the past, there’s no specific time for rains to pour, seawater level is rising and underground water table is decreasing. We can’t assure ourselves and our future generations, 3 simple things:

Clean drinking water without filter

Clean and fresh air

Food without chemicals

Who Changed The Climate?

Many people say that chemical industries are responsible for climate change. Some say, government officials and policy makers are the culprits of climate change, and some just simply blame others for climate change. But here's the reality - ALL HUMANS WHO CONSUME ENERGY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE.

Every person who wears clothes, brushes teeth, sits on a chair, works on a table, uses electricity, vehicles, etc is a contributor to climate change. Every single thing we use, such as sofa, bed, toothbrush, toothpaste, table, chair, fan, light, mobile, laptop, etc requires energy for manufacturing. While using this energy, there are carbon emissions. So, if humans are responsible for climate change, they are the ones who will find a solution to it.

How To Mitigate Climate Change?

Most of us consider air pollution as the reason for climate change, and hence say that EVs, afforestation, clean and green energy like solar energy, etc are the solutions.

No, these are a cure, but not a prevention for climate change. Cancer can’t be treated using paracetamol, similarly climate change can’t be treated using the above methods. The solution is simple:

Avoid the use of energy wherever possible.

Minimize the use of energy wherever possible.

Generate energy locally and limit the consumption.

How Much Time Do We Have To Mitigate Climate Change?

Now that we know, what is climate change and that we are responsible for this, now we should know how much time is left with us to take corrective action, and when is the right time to take the action.

Firstly, the action is to be taken NOW. There is no other time we should start climate correction action.

There are two thresholds of the average global temperature rise : 1.5 and 2 degree Celcius. After 1.5 degree C (the final warning bell), the climate change will be half irreversible, but still there would be a scope for improvement. After 2 degree C, there would be no warning bell, but the climate change will take place more severely, there will be more floods, more earthquakes, more forest fires, and more number of DEATHS!

So, to reach 1.5 degree C, we have ONLY 4 YEARS.

This was all about the climate change and the solutions to climate change. So, let's come together to bring a big change in the current situation!

One more important way of mitigation is use of renewable sources of energy. Solar cells, wind turbines, tidal projects and more. This is the most efficient way. The only problems with solar cells is that they are expensive and after 30-40 years, it becomes non recyclable waste or is very difficult to recycle and yes, costlier. But it’s nothing compared to its benefits.
