Kickstarter for "Your Guide to Climate Action" Goes Live on October 8th!
Hi y'all,
It's been a while since I posted in this newsletter but I've got some awesome news for those who haven't heard yet.
I'm writing a book called “Your Guide to Climate Action” and am launching a crowdfunding campaign for it that will go live on Tuesday, October 8th at 8 AM EDT!
This is the climate action guide that I wish I’d had (for any point in my climate journey) and I’m so excited to share it with you :)
If you would like an early copy of the book and want to support this project, please help me make it a success by getting it as soon as it goes live on Kickstarter!! (get a head start and sign up to be notified here)
Other fun news - as you can see, the book cover is looking awesome! This is not finalized, but it’s exciting and makes it feel more real so I’m going to share anyway - let me know what ya think!
Why am I using Kickstarter?
A couple weeks ago, I shared a little about what Kickstarter is for those who aren’t familiar with this time-constrained, all-or-nothing crowdfunding platform that helps bring projects to life (it’s like a GoFundMe but you’ll get the book when it’s ready, assuming our campaign hits its funding goal!)
Today, I want to share why I’m using Kickstarter. There are three main reasons:
1. It’s great for you!
People who support this project on Kickstarter will get the book months earlier than it’s available anywhere else!
You’ll also get access to fun rewards and perks that won’t be available anywhere else. For example, you can get a signed bookplate where I’ll personally thank you for your support, or you can have me join a Q&A for your book club!
It’s also an opportunity to be a part of bringing this book to the world and all the positive impact it will have.
2. Potential for a Greater Positive Impact
Ultimately, I believe this book will inspire and empower people who read it to take more climate actions and be more effective in the actions they take (in addition to many other important things!)
And a successful Kickstarter campaign will help to get this book into more people’s hands. That means more people will be empowered and taking action.
There are millions of people in the Kickstarter ecosystem so it’s possible a lot more people may discover it who wouldn’t have otherwise (especially if you support the project right when it launches - 8 am EDT on Tuesday, October 8th! …algorithms).
Finally, since people will be getting and reading the book before it’s available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, people will be able to review the book on day 1 of the public launch, which means it will get recommended to more people!
3. Costs:
I decided to self-publish this book. That means there isn’t a book deal with a publisher or the advance payment that comes with it. It also means I have to come up with the upfront costs of publishing a book (e.g. editing, cover design, formatting, audio editing, etc.) This Kickstarter helps cover some of those costs, ~$3,500 in this case (excludes my time and co-working costs).
Also, when someone gets the book on Kickstarter, more of the money goes to me than it would if bought through Amazon or Barnes & Noble, so that’s nice too.
If you want to help make this possible, supporting this Kickstarter is the way to go. You’ll also get my book as soon as it’s ready (weeks or months before it’s available anywhere else) and, importantly, you can help get this book into the hands of even more people by helping to make this launch a success!
So be ready to support when the campaign launches on Tuesday. And thank you in advance - I appreciate you :)
Much love,
Ryan
P.S. I would love it if you subscribed to the newsletter on substack. It's free and how you can make sure to see everything I write going forward - thank you!
