Core Values: The Foundation of Achievement
To achieve a goal, we first define the outcome we desire, then determine the type of people we need to become and the actions we must take to reach that goal.
Achievement, therefore, follows a progression: being → doing → having.
This model mirrors the dynamic between an organization's vision, mission, and core values.
While people may occasionally fall short of exhibiting these values, the focus should be on constantly realigning them with the core values.
Our being is found in our becoming. The actions we take daily shape who we are and guide us toward our vision. Thus, frequent reminders of who we strive to become are essential.
Core values should not be merely aspirational; they must be carefully chosen. These values should be observable, measurable, and actionable. By actively monitoring and adjusting behavior based on these values, we create a path that drives the actions necessary to achieve our goals.
In short, core values fuel the behavior required for success. They guide what we do daily and ultimately shape what we accomplish.
