Create a Dropdown Record in Power Apps using a Dataverse Lookup Column
My name is Rachel Irabor, and I'm a Power Platform and Dynamics 365 CRM developer. I love to document what I have learned or encountered.
Using a lookup column is easier to maintain more effectively than a choice column, especially in instances where more data options or changes need to be added in the future.
In this blog post, I will be showing you how to create a dropdown record in Dataverse using a lookup column.
Step-by-Step Process
They are different ways to create a lookup column in Dataverse, either by creating a lookup data type column or by creating a relationship. Here we will be creating a lookup column using a one-to-many relationship.
First, always remember to add your Dataverse table to your solution
Step 1
Click on Relationship
Step 2
- Click on New Relationship
- Click on one-to-many
Step 3
Create the Relationship (we are creating the one-to-many relationship in this Registered Participants Table)
- Search and select the related table, for this, we will be using the Power Platform Event Table
- Add the Lookup column display name
- Click on general and add the relationship name
- On the Advanced option, it has Types of behavior and Delete. Here we will be using Referential for the type of behavior and Remove link for Delete. Learn more about where to use the types of behaviour
- Click on Done
Step 4
Add the records to the rows of the Primary column of the Registered Participant Table. By doing this it's easy to search for the data in the lookup column (lookup column is located in the Power Platform Event Table).
