Will apprenticeships transform the engineering profession?
The UK’s ambitious 2030 goals will require the energy sector to recruit and train for thousands of new roles over the coming years.
Kate Grant, Director of Asset Operation at National Grid Electricity Transmission, explores why the role of apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on the sector should not be overlooked.
Future Energy Scenarios released for our Distribution network
Our latest Distribution Future Energy Scenarios (DFES), which align with the national Future Energy Pathways produced by NESO, indicate how we expect demand and generation to grow on our UK Distribution network.
The scenarios represent a year’s worth of data-gathering to understand the impact that the growth in low carbon technologies, generation and storage will have on the network.
Increased competition in flexibility markets leads to savings on the energy system
The National Grid Distribution System Operator (DSO) has awarded 525 flexibility trades in its UK regions, procuring over 18GWh of availability. Increased competition in local flexibility markets can deliver significant savings as they incentivise consumers to change their energy demand or generation behaviour at times when the energy system is most in demand
