Dear Graduates: here are some tips on writing a cover letter :)

Remember - It is important to ensure you stand out from other applicants, a good cover letter can differentiate your application and thus assisting you to the next step - The interview. A cover letter introduces you and is your first chance to make a good impression on your potential employer, use it to your advantage, How? you ask...

The content of your cover letter should be brief and structured, it is not meant to be a repetition of information found in your CV.

Address the relevant person, whose name appears on the job advert. If possible, avoid Sir or Madam.

Mention the job title and the reference number as well as where you saw the post.

State why you are interested in them as an employer.

Be sure to follow specific instructions and include any requested information, e.g., current salary.

Tailor your information to make it as relevant as possible to the organisation or job you are applying for. DO NOT LIE about your abilities and experiences, but HIGHLIGHT the traits you posses that make you suitable for the position, as well as what you can contribute and what makes you different.

Ensure the letter flows freely.

Conclude your letter by expressing an interest in engaging further with the recruiter. Also, mention that you would like the opportunity to discuss your suitability further at an interview and that you look forward to hearing from them in due time.
