Defying Limits: Why I Signed Up for 29029 Everesting

Defying Limits: Why I Signed Up for 29029 Everesting

One of the founders of 29029 Everesting, Colin O’Brady, made history as the first person to cross Antarctica solo and self-supported. He was told—over and over again—that he wouldn’t be able to do it. That it was impossible. That many had died trying.

"Why would you waste your time?" they asked.

But he did it.

Of course, he trained physically. But more than that, he built the mental resilience to push through when the conditions were brutal, when the doubts crept in, and when his body wanted to stop.

That’s the kind of mental strength I want to cultivate.

I signed up for 29029 Everesting because I’m doing something I’ve never done before. And I know I won’t be alone—many others will be tackling this challenge for the first time, too.

But I’d be lying if I said I don’t question myself.

How am I going to do this?

How do I get over the mental hurdle?

How do I not feel overwhelmed by a goal that seems so far from where I am now?

This might not be big for everyone, but it’s big for me.

At first, I was fired up. The idea of hiking for 36 hours to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest’s elevation felt exhilarating.

But then, reality set in. 😳

And when I started telling people, some looked at me with doubt. Why would you do that? they asked.

That’s when I learned something important—their skepticism wasn’t really about me. The coaches at 29029 reminded us that when people question why we’re doing something difficult, they’re often projecting their own fears, doubts, and insecurities.

And that’s a crucial moment.

It can go one of two ways:

🔹 I can shrink into the smallness of their doubt and start wondering, Did I just sign up for something I can’t actually do?

OR

🔹 I can lean into the strength of the 29029 community—the coaches, the staff, and the climbers who have done it before. The ones who know it’s possible.

I choose to lean in.

Because if it were easy, it wouldn’t be worth it.

It’s worth it because I have doubts. Because it challenges me. Because even if I fail, I will have gone out there and pushed beyond what I ever thought possible.

And I’m not just doing this for myself.

I want to send a message to other women who might feel like they’re too old to take on something big.

➡️ You’re not too old.

➡️ Your age is just a number.

➡️ You’re never too old to dream a new dream or set a new goal.

If not now… when?

You are stronger than you think. 💪

Growth doesn’t stop with age—it deepens.

Confidence isn’t something you lose—it’s something you reclaim.

So take the first step, no matter how small.

↳ Say yes to something that scares you.

↳ Push beyond what feels comfortable.

Because the moment you do, you prove to yourself that you are capable of more than you ever imagined. 🌟

It’s never too late to redefine what’s possible.

Cheers to your brain health journey,

Genell
