Delivering on the Promise
I just wrapped up remarks and a great conversation with Satya Nadella at my first #GEMM17 as CEO of GE. Being in a room with so many customers, partners and tech industry leaders is truly energizing. My remarks focused on how we all can deliver on the promise of digital, and I shared real, tangible results. You can watch the whole conversation on video here:
Here are a couple of the key takeaways:
First: a few years ago, the notion of a digitized industrial company was just an idea—with no precedent and no playbook. Today, it is a reality. We know this because we have gone through the process of becoming a digital industrial company. We always had high hopes, and the more we see, the more we like it. We are all in.
And, as we have been hearing during #GEMM17, customers are seeing tangible benefits because of this transformation.
While we know this digital transition is real, we also know that it is not easy. So today we will be talking about how we all can deliver on the promise of digital. Although this is hard, it is also existential for the industrial world.
Second: We need to get there faster because it matters to the world. We aren’t talking about marginal change around the edges. This is about quantum, meaningful improvement. It is about entirely new ways to power the world, heal the sick, build our economy and transport people and goods safely and efficiently. It is about problems that can’t be solved by software alone.
It’s no longer enough to build machines. The company that just builds machines won’t survive. We need to build an integrated ecosystem—one that is made up of machines, people, software, and supply chains—that drives toward a common goal: higher productivity and better outcomes for customers. Improving customer outcomes is the ultimate scorecard here.
Finally, you will hear stories about three of our customers—Qantas, Port of LA and HubCo—who are seeing real results from Predix when it comes to powering their digital industrial transformations.
Our customers are getting real results. And that has translated to GE seeing one-hundred percent year-over-year growth for our Predix-powered orders.
The company I joined 30 years ago made machines that made the world work better. We are still that company, but the world has changed, and the industrial world must change with it.
