The Devil’s 10 Commandments – Breaking Free to Live Exceptionally
If you’ve ever felt held back from achieving your full potential, chances are, you’ve unknowingly followed a destructive set of unwritten rules. Let’s call them “The Devil’s 10 Commandments.” These toxic beliefs and behaviors work like silent saboteurs, distracting you, discouraging you, and keeping you from the exceptional life you’re meant to live.
#TheExceptionCode challenges us to take bold steps to be exceptional by breaking free from the ordinary. But to truly embrace exceptional living, we must first confront the toxic commandments designed to keep us trapped.
Here are The Devil’s 10 Commandments, and how to break them to rise above and lead the exceptional life you deserve.
1. “Thou Shalt Doubt Thyself”
Self-doubt is the first tool in the devil’s arsenal. It convinces you that you’re not enough, that your dreams are too big, and that failure is inevitable.
How to Break It:
Exceptional leaders don’t silence doubt, they use it as fuel for growth.
2. “Thou Shalt Fear Change”
Fear whispers that change is dangerous, that it’s safer to stay where you are, even if you’re unhappy or unfulfilled.
How to Break It:
Exceptional living begins where fear ends.
3. “Thou Shalt Stay Busy, Not Productive”
Busyness creates the illusion of progress, but often it’s a distraction from meaningful work.
How to Break It:
Exceptional leaders work smarter, not harder.
4. “Thou Shalt Seek Perfection”
Perfectionism paralyzes. It convinces you to delay action, fearing that if it’s not perfect, it’s not worth doing.
How to Break It:
Exceptional living thrives on momentum, not perfection.
5. “Thou Shalt Compare Thyself to Others”
Comparison steals joy and breeds insecurity. It makes you focus on what others are doing instead of your own journey.
How to Break It:
Exceptional leaders run their own race.
6. “Thou Shalt Avoid Discomfort”
Comfort is the enemy of growth. Avoiding discomfort keeps you stuck in mediocrity, far from the bold steps required for exceptional living.
How to Break It:
Exceptional individuals embrace discomfort as a path to greatness.
7. “Thou Shalt Focus on Others’ Expectations”
Living for others’ approval is a guaranteed way to lose yourself. It keeps you chasing external validation instead of aligning with your true values.
How to Break It:
Exceptional living is authentic living.
8. “Thou Shalt Fear Failure”
Failure is the devil’s favorite weapon. It convinces you to avoid risks and stay safe, robbing you of growth and opportunity.
How to Break It:
Exceptional leaders fail forward.
9. “Thou Shalt Neglect Rest and Renewal”
The hustle culture myth convinces you that rest is weakness and that burnout is a badge of honor.
How to Break It:
Exceptional living is built on balance, not burnout.
10. “Thou Shalt Settle for Mediocrity”
The most dangerous commandment of all is settling, convincing yourself that “good enough” is as far as you can go.
How to Break It:
Exceptional leaders never settle, they strive.

3moA perspective It is true many of my comments focus on emotional intellect and remains true for this topic. the "10 commandments" can be suggested to be byproducts of unregulated emotional biases. Whether it is obtaining perceived negative or positive stimulus, the desire when operating in emotion is to feed. The subjective view of "good or bad" will depend on the dominant bias. Seeking a path to self-awareness and regulating emotional biases will provide the ability to reduce the influences that cause these symptoms or byproducts. It will also help recognize and accept that "breaking free" is based on character as well. In that, there is a willingness to stand by what you objectively understand to be true irrespective of outcome. This will help reduce the desire to let fear of outcome dictate your thoughts and behavior. We must all strive to step outside the veil of our emotional bias, to create a more productive and reasonable construct for both ourselves and others. Change cannot take place until there are those who seek to replace being governed by a bias ethos, for wisdom and understanding.
