Disconnect- A Holiday Challenge
Over this past year, we've all been tested in ways we never thought possible. Our society transformed at a moment's notice, leaving millions in limbo and forcing us to react quickly. As we adapt to this strange new world, I've observed countless acts of ingenuity, courage, and kindness from many of you, but I'm sure I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say: good riddance, 2020.
While we aren't in the clear yet, the post-COVID era is steadily approaching and brings with it an abundance of opportunity. As entrepreneurs, it's natural for us to look ahead and strategize for the future, but this upcoming holiday season, I'm proposing a bold challenge for each of you. I'm asking you to do something that might seem absurd and counter-productive, but it will pay its dividends for years to come.
I'm daring you to disconnect.
I know - it's never easy. There are always tasks to complete, and our minds are perpetually split - our careers rule our thoughts, and our smartphones pervade our living rooms, dinner tables, and bedrooms. But, with each passing holiday season, we are firmly reminded that our children, spouses, and elders have all grown a year older. One day, perhaps in the not-so-distant future, we may wistfully reminisce about these times. Our future selves will wish they could return to this moment and live it once more.
So, if there's anything I can leave you with, it is this: the most valuable gift you can give your loved ones is your undivided attention. I'm challenging you to give it to them. Block off your calendar, enjoy your loved ones, and let them enjoy you. Make the effort, and I promise you will cherish these memories for the rest of your life.
This holiday season, let's leave our distractions at the door, stay present, and disconnect.
Happy Holidays everyone - enjoy yourselves, and stay safe. Next year, let's return recharged, and work harder and better than ever before.
