Do these before you sleep each night
In the previous article, we looked at the 7 habits you must include in your morning routine. Today I share with you 4 important things to do every night before you sleep. One important note before you proceed: Maintain a constant sleep pattern. Sleeping and waking up at constant times goes a long way to boost your productivity. Here we go...
1. Plan your day the night before
This is very common, but very few people actually implement it. Waking up the next day knowing exactly the first couple of things to focus on is great, and that would only be effective enough if you carefully scheduled the day’s activities the night before. I understand you cannot perfectly craft a schedule as there may be some unpredictable changes, but at least it helps improves your clarity.
2. Recap everything you learned throughout the day
Get a notebook to summarize things you learned during the day. Go through it when it is close to bedtime. Doing this consistently helps to consolidate the knowledge in memory. The cumulative effects help you retain more of what you learn and possibly uncover unique insights on the knowledge you have accumulated so far.
3. Shut down all visual electronics
The goal is not just to fall asleep, but to also be calm and free of a multitude of thoughts. Hovering between digital platforms, just when you intended to sleep disrupts the process. Resist the urge and simply turn all screens blank before you lay down. Instead of endlessly scrolling through social media newsfeeds, it would be better to read something else instead – an article, maybe.
4. Review Your Goals
This is a great way to keep track of your progress both in the long and short term. A constant reminder about what you have accomplished so far and yet to accomplish is a great way to keep your ambitious flame on the high. This will help psyche up your mind for the next day, as you know there are more milestones to cover.
