DO YOU WANT SUSTAINABLE CHANGE, OR SPOON-FED SOLUTIONS?
Yeah, this is one of 'those' blogs. I'm sure someone will tell me off for this or flounce off in a huff but for the rest of you, I love you and this is why I have to say this to you.
Two really interesting things happened this afternoon. The first almost has me feeling a little bad that I'm going to email this blog out because some of my clients have had nearly a half dozen emails from me today, as I uploaded past courses into the Searching for Serenity dashboard and ensured that they had access.
As I was scrolling through my list of subscribers to add the people who have taken these courses, that have taken place at various points over the past 2.5 years, I was slightly taken aback.
There were some who had one or two courses to their name. The vast majority hadn't signed up for a thing. And then there was my inner circle. My rockstar unicorns as we kind of jokingly call ourselves. There was this core group of clients, particularly the ones who have been with me since the beginning, who have literally signed up to dozens of my courses (good job I do so many low cost courses and workshops eh?).
There their names were, over and over.
You see, these clients keep coming back for more not because they are looking for a one size fits all solution or a single pill to solve their problems (would that I could!), but because they see real, sustainable change the more than they show up, the more time they spend with me, the more we grow together.
I get on fabulously with my clients but I don't think any of them love me enough to buy courses that don't do anything for them!
Then, as I switched my focus to catching up on messages, a comment thread pulled my attention. A friend had shared an article together with her viewpoint and had gotten drawn into a discussion. Was it a brilliant and enlightened discussion about the topic at hand?
Sadly not...
It was someone laughing and asking for more information... which was contained within the article posted. When my friend pointed out that she could read the article to answer her questions, the poster bit back that she 'made it clear that [she] was looking for education and information' and went on to say 'I prefer talking to people, not reading articles'.
Yes, dear reader, you know what happened next.
I threw in my two penn'orth.
'So what you're saying is you want to be educated and informed... but you don't want to read anything for yourself? So, does that make it other people's duty to educate you?'
*clutches pearls in horror*
This bugs me.
That's putting it real mildly.
It gets my goat in an extreme way.
One of the things I've always been keen on doing is engaging, discussing; I write blogs on an almost daily basis, talk on podcasts, radio and tv programmes, share free content, have hundreds of hours of free videos. If you slide into my DMs asking for help I don't throw up a paywall and demand an hour's consultancy, I'll chat and check in with people and meet for coffee when you're in Bristol.
I'm in this for the long haul and that means producing one hell of a lot of free and low cost content because I know what it was like to feel burned out, lost and alone, struggling and looking for support. I want to make a real difference.
But baby I'm not going to spoon-feed you.
That's not me being a money grubbing thief or a selfish cow by the way. That's me being honest and sharing the truth of this.
There IS no one single way to recover from burnout, to reverse imposter syndrome, to replace the toxic behaviours learned from working in dysfunctional environments.
These are complicated and nuanced situations that are impacted by our individual behaviours and beliefs, worries and workloads.
And that is why I share so many low cost programmes, because burnout is a real life choose your own adventure. It's the best kind of pick and mix.
Those comments in that thread threw up another thought for me - just how damned lucky I am to have the clients I do.
You see, my clients do the work.
They read extensively.
They trial and implement.
They adjust and adapt.
They are in it for the long haul, just like me. They make progress and when they notice on area giving rise to struggle they step it up, fill in a gap in their knowledge, get support. Sometimes it's from me, sometimes it's from other coaches, therapists, books, friends, other modalities.
Like me, they never expect to know it all, they are endlessly curious and always looking for a better outcome. They are compassionate, kind, and would never dream of telling someone that they were above reading an article or 12.
There are so many people who won't read this full blog because TL;DR culture and time is money etc etc. And hey, maybe those people didn't need time and support and help anyway.
But if you've read all of this and you're still on the fence, if you're still waiting for the magic pill or you're still sick to your stomach at the thought of going back to work tomorrow morning... well isn't it time you became one of my people?
We are in to the final 24 hours to join The Burnout Workshop before it goes live tomorrow.
You can join us today and access the live training happening tomorrow evening, the workbook and receive the gift of the Happiness and Resilience workbook from me.
Or you can wait another 24 hours and pay twice as much for half as much goodness.
That's how it works. You take the leap, or you live to regret it.
This is the first singular burnout training I have delivered online in more than 2 years and there is so much going in to this hour's content.
I am sharing everything I can transmit to you about burnout - what it is, what it means, what it doesn't mean. How to spot it in yourself and others, how to recognise the spectrum and most important - practical, real solutions that you can take away with you and implement to manage and reverse burnout.
The more you know about a problem the easier it becomes to solve it. Final chance to reserve your place using the link in the comments below
