Our 2024 Annual Report was released this month and highlights the progress we’ve made over the past year in delivering our purpose to enable a zero carbon, lower cost energy future.

Throughout 2024, the Drax Foundation awarded £3.6 million funding, benefitting nearly 100,000 people across the world.  

The new 2024 Foundation Annual Review launched this month and showcases how community investment is central to our commitment to be a good neighbour in the communities and regions where we operate.

This joint venture agreement will allow for the development of a factory to process millions of tonnes of legacy ash into Supplementary Cementitious Material (SCM), which is a key ingredient in low carbon green cement. 

Lee Dawes , our Chief Operations Officer, said: “This is a landmark deal not only for Drax, but for the UK construction industry. Cement production is one of the most carbon intensive processes in the world and through this partnership, we will be able to help the construction industry cut its carbon emissions in the years ahead.”

The latest quarterly Electric Insights report provides updates from last quarter on the supply, demand, price and environmental impact of Britain’s electricity. Written by Iain Staffell at Imperial College London , the report covers: 

  • Wind becomes Britain’s largest source of electricity in 2024. 

  • Wind droughts show the need for low-carbon flexible generation.

  • Drax launches first virtual work experience with Springpod: 💻

We’re partnering with Springpod to offer our first fully virtual work experience course, available to over 400,000 students across the UK.  

Karen McKeever , Chief People Officer at Drax, said: “These programmes represent a highly inclusive way of bringing people to Drax, creating accessible opportunities for young people to learn more about Drax and renewable energy in an engaging way”.
