Driven by Curiosity, Defined by Perseverance: Katrin’s Journey at NORDSEE
Hello Katrin, can you tell us about yourself and your role in NORDSEE?
Hello, sure! I actually joined NORDSEE twice. My first experience started in early 2021 when I was hired for a specific accounting project. However, after a few months, I had to leave due to personal reasons. Six months later, I rejoined the general accounting team, where I work on monthly and year-end closures.
Today I am project manager, overseeing various accounting topics that arise. I am responsible for very specific areas, but I also support my team members with any questions they may have. As part of QSRP, I also handle intercompany accounting between different entities.
Family is also very important to me. I have two children, and balancing work and family life is essential. No matter the challenges, I try to live my best life. Maybe that’s why I project a sense of positivity around me, even in difficult times.
You collaborate with multiple entities, how is that experience for you?
If you're open-minded and maintain respectful communication, working with different cultures and countries becomes easy and enriching.
I was heavily involved in the introduction of SAP, which allowed me to work closely with colleagues from Belgium and Italy. These connections have been valuable, and I continue to maintain them throughout various projects. These opportunities allow me to exchange knowledge and learn from the different experiences of colleagues across the Group. I have a natural curiosity and always offer a helping hand.
Working with multiple entities that operate in the same industry gives us a great chance to compare best practices across countries and businesses. And for me, it’s always better to learn about others’ experiences and improve rather than remain stagnant.
What is it like working at NORDSEE?
I’ve been here for almost three years, and what I love most is the people. Everyone is passionate about their work and always have an open ear. We enjoy spending time together and get know each other on a deeper level. It’s a great environment where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts.
Within my team, openness and honesty are crucial. We need clear communication to meet deadlines and reach well-thought-out conclusions.
Another great aspect is flexibility: I am able to work part-time, which allows me to balance work and family life. I really appreciate the trust the company places in its employees.
What do colleagues think of you?
I have what I’d call a "helping gene." I never give up—when I start something, I want to see it through, even if that means being a little persistent. Some colleagues joke that they "hate" my proactiveness because I keep pushing until things get done! I strongly believe that our past experiences shape who we are. My upbringing shaped my values, morals and ethics – making me perseverant.
Congratulations on winning the QSRP Values Award! Can you tell us more about it?
I was honestly surprised for two reasons. First, accounting isn’t usually the most popular department, so I didn’t expect an accountant to be recognized in this way. Second, since I work part-time, the visibility is less than being full time in the office.
Instead, many colleagues, not only from NORDSEE but across QSRP, voted for me. I feel truly honoured. I believe it reflects the way I work with my colleagues, how much I listen, and my willingness to help others.
What do you love most about your job?
The most important thing for me is that I can be myself. I don’t have to worry about what I’m allowed to say or do. I have the freedom to decide what’s important, how to drive topics forward, and how to reach solutions. That kind of independence is invaluable in a job.
NORDSEE is a place where I can apply all the knowledge I gained in my previous roles. The company is open and receptive to different perspectives.
I also trust my colleagues, and we maintain a culture of mutual respect. Everyone's opinion is valued, and there’s a strong team spirit here.
What does NORDSEE mean to you?
I’ve known NORDSEE as a customer since I was a child, and growing up in Germany, it’s easy to identify with the brand. If you like fish, it’s always a great place to go. The atmosphere here is welcoming and comfortable.
What I love about NORDSEE is its balance between tradition and innovation. It still offers its classic dishes, but at the same time, it constantly introduces new products. As a consumer, I’d love to spend more time at NORDSEE to explore these new offerings.
Great story Katrin Spiess it is always a pleasure to work with you and to try to solve difficult SAP puzzles.
