Embracing all the YOU's to get unstuck

Embracing all the YOU's to get unstuck

We’ve all got aspects of our personalities that dial up or down depending on where we are and who we’re with. After all, you probably don’t want to bring your Friday-night dance floor self into a finance meeting.

Reflecting on myself I have a few versions of me and it can be useful to break them down. There's admin Viki who lives behind a computer getting shit done, Facilitator and performer Viki who brings the "infectious energy", there's sporty Viki who's highly competitive (with herself) .... the list goes on.

Why is this useful? Well, when you’re feeling a bit stuck or can’t quite make a decision, it can be surprisingly helpful to have your different versions speak to each other.

What would the more cautious you say to the fun-loving party animal? What would teenage you say? Or future you?

This is something I do with coaching clients too. Because often clarity doesn’t come from picking the “right” voice, it comes from hearing all of them and noticing who’s being ignored.

A playful coaching exercise

Find an object in your house that represents each version of you.

  • Creative you? Grab a paintbrush or a saucepan.

  • Organised you? Maybe a notebook.

  • Relaxed you? how about the TV remote.

  • Silly you? Find something that embodies this like a party hat or fairy wand.

Then, ask yourself a question you’ve been pondering or propose a decision you need to make. Something like:

  • What do I need right now?

  • Should I say yes to this opportunity?

  • Do I really need to get all this done?

Now, one by one, pick up each object and answer that question as that version of you. Let each part speak. No judgement. Just curiosity.

This is all part of getting to know yourself better, listening in to what you already know and making space for every part of you. You are all welcome here.

If you want more space like this; to listen to yourself, talk things through or explore the different parts of you then I offer 1:1 coaching. You can book a free discovery call to see if it’s a good fit and find out more.

And in the meantime, go say hi to all the parts of you. They’ve probably got some decent advice.

I love this Viki! I love the activity too. I am often trying to balance between high-functioning, productive me and soft-girl, feminine me. I find it helpful to reflect on how this shows up at work/at home/in my relationships. Through reflection and coaching I can see that both serve me in unique and special ways ✨🤍
