U.S. Consulate Lagos Supports Program to Equip Young Women with Digital Skills

EmpowerHer Digital Initiative Launches in Ogun State

We are delighted to announce receipt of the U.S. Consulate Lagos Annual Program Statement (APS) award to strengthen cultural ties between the U.S. and Nigeria for 2024/2025 FY.

Through this project, we would be partnering with Abiodun and Yinka Atobatele Foundation AYAF through her Tech Hub, ATBTech Hub, to provide vulnerable and disadvantaged girls and young women with access to digital and 21st century skills such as data/business analysis, front-end and back-end development, product marketing, and management.

This exciting initiative aims to bridge the digital gender gap and empower young women in our community with the skills they need to thrive in the modern workforce. The program will focus on the following areas:

1. Comprehensive Digital Skills Training: Participants will receive hands-on training in critical areas such as data/business analysis, front end and back-end development, product marketing, and management. This will equip them with practical skills that are in high demand in today's job market.

2. Mentorship and Career Guidance: We will connect participants with successful professionals in the tech industry who will provide mentorship, career advice, and inspiration.

3. Entrepreneurship Support: For those interested in starting their own tech-based businesses, we will offer workshops on entrepreneurship, business planning, and accessing startup resources.

4. Internship Opportunities: We are partnering with local tech companies to provide internship placements for top-performing participants, giving them valuable real-world experience and support to thrive in the 21st century world.

5. Ongoing Support Network: Upon completion of the program, participants will join an alumni network that will provide ongoing support, networking opportunities, and resources for continuous learning.

The program is set to launch on Oct 15, 2024, and will run for 7 months. We aim to reach 100 young women in its first year, with plans to expand in subsequent years.

This initiative aligns perfectly with our organization's mission to promote equal opportunities and economic empowerment for all members of our community. We are grateful for the support of the U.S. Consulate Lagos and excited about the potential impact this program will have on the lives of young women in our area.

We encourage all eligible young women to apply for this life-changing opportunity. Application details and criteria can be found on our website https://ayafnigeria.org/empowerher/ and social media channels.

Together, we can build a more inclusive and technologically empowered future for our community!
