Enabling Oman’s Energy Future: Marsa LNG Infrastructure Takes Shape at SOHAR Port and Freezone

At SOHAR Port and Freezone, we’re more than a gateway to global trade—we’re a catalyst for progress. A major milestone in Oman’s energy transition is now taking shape with the development of the Marsa LNG infrastructure, underscoring our role in advancing sustainable energy and enabling world-class industrial growth.

SOHAR is leading this landmark project by developing vital maritime infrastructure to power Oman’s clean energy ambitions. Through strategic expansion and engineering excellence, we’re preparing our port for the energy solutions of tomorrow.

Building the Future, One Phase at a Time

To support Marsa LNG terminal, we are managing three key infrastructure packages:

  • Dredging of the access channel and berth pocket for safe LNG vessel access

  • Construction of a modern LNG jetty and shoreline reinforcement

  • Upgrades to access roads and stormwater drainage systems

Following detailed planning, environmental studies, and regulatory approvals, dredging began in January 2025, a major step forward in realizing this strategic project.

The scope includes removing over 4 million cubic meters of material to shape a 300-meter-wide, 14-meter-deep channel—ensuring safe navigation for large LNG carriers.

World-Class Partners, Proven Expertise

We’ve partnered with Boskalis ,a global leader in maritime services, to execute these critical works. Their advanced dredging fleet—Coastway, Willem van Oranje, and the powerful Colbart backhoe dredger—are now fully operational at SOHAR Port, working in unison to tackle varying seabed conditions with precision.

With real-time monitoring and operational forecasting, Boskalis is ensuring safety, precision, and efficiency throughout the project.

A Vision Coming to Life

With dredging well underway, we are on track to begin jetty construction in the coming months. This marks a physical and strategic transformation, solidifying SOHAR’s position as a regional hub for sustainable energy and industrial investment.

At SOHAR, we believe in bold ideas, collaborative partnerships, and future-ready infrastructure that drives lasting impact. Marsa LNG is a testament to our commitment to Connecting Commerce, Creating Opportunities—for Oman, the region, and generations to come.
