Ending Plastic Pollution: How Sidey & VEKA Are Helping To Lead a Greener Future in Fenestration

On World Environment Day 2025, the call to action is clear: it’s time to end plastic pollution.

But while many are just beginning their journey, others have spent years paving the way. On this day, VEKA is proud to spotlight Sidey Solutions Ltd , a long-standing partner with a shared vision for innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility.

For Sidey sustainability isn’t a campaign. It’s a commitment. A culture. A way of doing business that has been embedded in the fabric of the company for decades.

Based in Perth, Scotland, and with a legacy that stretches back over 93 years, Sidey has become synonymous with manufacturing excellence, community responsibility, and environmental leadership in fenestration. As a VEKA fabricator since 1997, Sidey has long shared our vision of not only delivering market-leading PVCu window and door systems but doing so in a way that respects the planet, the people who live on it, and the future we all share.

Sustainability has been part of our DNA for nearly two decades. It’s not just about compliance - it’s about conscience. From how we manage waste to how we run our facilities, we strive to lead by example and continually raise the bar.” - Steve Hardy, Managing Director, Sidey Solutions Ltd

The relationship between VEKA and Sidey goes far beyond product. It is a partnership built on shared values: innovation, trust, technical excellence - and a relentless pursuit of progress. Together, we have delivered high-performance Halo systems to residential, commercial, and public sector projects across Scotland.

But our shared sustainability credentials are what truly set this partnership apart.

Back in 2008, Sidey made a bold commitment to send zero manufacturing waste to landfill - a move that felt radical at the time. Yet by 2015, they had not only met this target - they had exceeded it. Today, between 90% and 100% of all Sidey’s waste is either recyclable or recoverable. That’s a significant leap from the 8–9% they recycled just 17 years ago.

Their environmental journey has been underpinned by clear, tangible actions:

  • Maximising the recycled content of materials

  • Minimising energy consumption through smarter manufacturing

  • Promoting environmental awareness across teams and supply chains

  • Continuously improving performance, with ISO 14001:2015 accreditation as proof

At VEKA, we’re proud to work alongside such a trailblazer. And we’re just as proud to support that mission with our own closed-loop innovations.

Turning Waste into Worth with VEKA Recycling

Through their collaboration with VEKA Recycling Limited, Sidey plays an essential role in the circular economy of modern fenestration. By returning post-consumer PVCu frames into the system, they help us reprocess these materials into new profiles - with no compromise on quality, aesthetics, or performance.

In 2024 alone, VEKA Recycling:

  • Processed over 68,300 tonnes of PVCu across Europe

  • Diverted 1.35 million frames from UK landfills

These aren’t abstract figures. They are the direct result of businesses like Sidey acting with intent - proving that when PVCu is managed responsibly, it’s not part of the plastic problem. It’s part of the sustainability solution.

“Our long-standing partnership with Sidey is a model of what the future of our industry should look like. By combining technical innovation with environmental accountability, we’re showing that performance and sustainability can - and must - go hand in hand.” - Tim Taylor, Commercial Director, VEKA plc

Supporting Scotland’s Vision for a Greener Future

Sidey’s operations are not just aligned with VEKA’s vision - they are aligned with the future of Scotland itself. As the Scottish Government works toward reducing emissions from buildings by 75% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2045, VEKA and Sidey’s energy-efficient solutions are helping to make those ambitions a reality.

From retrofitting homes to supporting large-scale projects under Scotland’s Heat in Buildings Strategy, the high-performance PVCu products we produce together are enabling real, lasting change - reducing heat loss, cutting energy bills, and supporting a just transition to low-carbon living.

World Environment Day 2025: A Moment to Reflect, and to Act

This year, World Environment Day challenges us to rethink our relationship with plastics - to reduce, reuse, recycle, and most of all, to take action.

For Sidey and VEKA, that action is already underway. It’s in every recycled frame. Every product engineered with care. Every truckload of waste diverted from landfill. Every promise kept.

The path to a sustainable future will be defined by partnerships like this - where legacy, leadership, and innovation intersect to create solutions that serve both people and the planet.

Together, we’re not just making better windows. We’re helping to build a better world.
