Energy Thinks: Chad Zamarin on Donuts or Dumbbells?

Energy Thinks: Chad Zamarin on Donuts or Dumbbells?

What you’ll get in this episode of Energy Thinks

A great conversation (as usual) with Williams’s new CEO, Chad Zamarin, kicking off Season 9 of the podcast.

Why Chad?

Chad’s not afraid to hit hard or take a stand … and he sees The Moment as a generational opportunity for oil and gas to lead. Chad and I dig into the unraveling of The Myth of an Easy Energy Transition to discuss the bold plays he will be making in The Moment at Williams.

Some of Chad’s insights

On skillful climate conversations: “You can be unapologetic about a strategy that is future-focused and long-term. A climate activist doesn’t care more about their children than I care about mine; we share the same goals. We want to create a better world, the best possible world for the people that we care about.”

On building infrastructure: “China has taken their electricity production and increased it tenfold in the last 25 years. While we’ve been sitting on the couch eating doughnuts, they’ve been in the gym, pumping iron. We’re going to get off the couch and go win the race for AI.”

On durable energy leadership: “You don’t want to have a strategy that is shifting with election cycles, or with the current mood of any constituency. You want to make sure you’re grounded in fundamentals and you’re focused on a long-term strategy. We [at Williams] are very focused on energy affordability, energy reliability, and decarbonization, and we’re not going to let up.”

Chad’s optimism is infectious. So is his discipline in resisting telling potential partners “I told you so” about The Myth. He’s focused on building relationships with those partners instead.
