ENOUGH is ENOUGH - Prevention is better than cure - fight me!

For goodness sake, can we PLEASE focus on awareness and education which equals PREVENTION.

As per the article link below, “The NSW state government will introduce legislation on Wednesday to establish a new fraud check service that will allow government and other accredited agencies to confirm whether a person’s identity document (ID) details have been stolen or compromised.”

Yes, there is a need for legislation such as this to support those where their Identity Documents have been stolen or compromised.

What really frustrates me is the way $$$$ is given to events AFTER the fact rather than BEFORE it.

Prevention is better than the cure

I’m becoming more and more convinced that it will take a catastrophic cyber event involving our citizens and politicians on a personal level before basic cyber hygiene is properly embedded as a necessary life skill for everyone.

Here are some awareness campaigns supported by education, awareness campaigns and a clear understanding of our own responsibility

  • Slip, Slop, Slap
  • Life Be In It
  • Drink and drive you’re a bloody idiot
  • Don’t flirt with death
  • Stop, drop and roll

What about cyber?

Yes, I know. There is ‘stop, think, report’ or ‘stop before you click’…………. Etc.

Um. No.

They are boring, not relatable and ’STOP’ is not a helpful word at all for the human brain when it comes to cybersecurity as we need to be aware and think first. STOP makes sense for Stop, Drop and Roll as it’s all about an emergency situation with fire.

Well, as many of you know, until something else catchy and relevant appears, my version is:

DON’T CLICK ON SHIT

I have been ‘testing ’Don’t Click On Shit’ with 1,000s of people for about 5 years now and 99% of them (individuals, groups or conference attendees) have had the same response. A laugh and a nod of agreement. They all get it because it speaks directly to the human.

NOTE: There was one person (yes one) who thought it was ‘unprofessional language’ and to that person I say, thanks for sharing and have the day you deserve lol

Don’t Click On Shit is relatable, means the same thing to people of all ages with different levels of cyber knowledge, it starts a conversation and it’s bloody funny.

Do you agree or disagree with me? Do you have another idea?

I typically say 'don't click on random schnitzel'. A bit softer, but I have no issues with your version!
