Is Everyone You Know Sick Too?

Is Everyone You Know Sick Too?

Is it just me, or is everyone around us catching the flu right now?

I mean—I finally splurged on this fancy sunscreen (felt like a responsible adult), and of course, the universe responded with rain. The clouds rolled in, traffic crawled, and suddenly, everyone around me was coughing, sneezing, or “just feeling a little off.”

Apparently, this kind of sudden weather switch—hot to cold—can weaken your immune system. So yeah, we’re all more likely to fall sick.

But don’t worry, I’ve done some homework (so you don’t have to). Here’s how I’m protecting myself—and how you can too:

What I’m Doing to Stay Healthy (the basics)

  • Staying dry: Umbrellas. Raincoats. Waterproof shoes. Yes, I now own all three.
  • Hygiene checks: Handwashing like it’s 2020 again. Also, sanitizer in every bag.
  • Clean water only: I’m sticking to boiled/purified water and drinking more than usual.
  • Sleeping better: Trying, at least. And skipping late-night doomscrolling.

Eat This, Not That

Boost immunity with:

  • Citrus fruits, pomegranates, apples, pears
  • Spinach, garlic, ginger, turmeric
  • Yogurt, fermented foods
  • Nuts, seeds, and dry fruits

Skip:

  • Raw salads & cut fruit from outside
  • Watermelons & muskmelons (they can upset your tummy)
  • Fried, sugary, or ultra-processed stuff

Mosquito-Proof Your Home 🦟

  • Dump stagnant water (even from that forgotten flower vase)
  • Keep indoor lights dim in the evening or switch to yellow “bug” lights, which attract fewer mosquitoes
  • Apply repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin and clothing. Reapply as needed, especially after sweating or getting wet

Wet Socks = Trouble

I now carry an extra pair of socks to work. Sounds like an overreaction, right? But hear me out—wet feet aren’t just uncomfortable, they actually mess with your body temperature and make you more vulnerable to colds and infections. I learned the hard way after one particularly rainy day left me with soggy socks and a sore throat the next morning. Waterproof shoes + quick-dry socks + backups in my bag = Highly recommended.

Supplements?

So it is time to start being a little more proactive. After a consultation with our in-house doctor on the Alyve Health app, I’ve been taking vitamin C and zinc supplements on days I’m feeling run down or when people around me start sneezing a little too close. Vitamin C is great for immunity (you already knew that), and zinc helps reduce the duration and severity of colds. Of course, always check in with your doc before adding anything to your routine.

On May 16 (World Hypertension Day), our experts team hosted a webinar titled: ‘The Pressure Puzzle: Understanding & Reversing Hypertension with Integrative Tools’ — and wow, the response was incredible.

We dove into things like:

Okay, that’s it from me this month. Stay hyderated, snack wisely, and please—carry extra socks. Trust me on that one.
