Winch family have kept Calgary parking lots clean for over 35 years

Quality Maintenance Inc., has been cleaning up litter outside commercial properties since 1985. The Winch family has a longer history providing litter pick after you factor in other family members.

Joe Winch was a school janitor who made extra money on the side cleaning up litter from a neighborhood shopping plaza. He sometimes took along with him his young sons, Brian, Dale and Darrel, as his "little helpers". Brian decided to follow in his fathers foot steps and started Winch Janitorial Services in 1981, just a year after his fathers passing. Brian joined forces with his brother Dale at Quality Maintenance Inc., in 1985 to focus on "after hours" litter control. Today, the family owned and operated company services about 150 commercial properties with a daily, on-foot service.

The majority of its accounts are with property management companies to service their retail, office and industrial properties. Most of their business comes from referrals from satisfied customers. Some have been clients for more than 25 years.

Quality Maintenance provides a very personal level of service, and act as an extra set of eyes at their properties. Any graffiti, property damage, vandalism, burned out lights, illegal dumping or overflowing waste dumpsters is reported to their client. The brothers understand that going beyond their litter pick duties makes the job of their customers that much easier. Litter pick isn't just another job or service for people who might not bee too enthused about doing a little extra.

Brian and Dale don't believe peoples attitudes toward littering have changed much in over 40 years. They still see people throw litter material or cigarette butts to the ground despite a litter barrel or ashtray being nearby; watch people dump fast food material from their vehicles onto the parking lot. It seems fighting litter is a never-ending battle.

The brothers are proud of the service they perform; one which has provided them a good living and allowed them to spend quality time with their families. Joe would be proud.
