Finding Content Gold: A Simple Guide to Using AI for Better Content

In the online world, everyone wants their stuff to be seen. But just making a bunch of posts without a plan is a waste of time. To get to the top of search results and really connect with people, you need to find the "gaps" in your content and fill them.

This is where two cool tools come in: Screaming Frog, a tool that scans websites, and NotebookLM, a smart AI helper from Google. Used together, they turn confusing data into a smart plan, helping you work faster and create better content.

This method is a key part of how I work, and top experts agree. People like Chris Long (@gofishchris) are using Screaming Frog to find deeper meanings in words, while others like Julian Goldie (@aiseomastery) are showing how NotebookLM can be your own personal idea lab. Plus, the new Screaming Frog 22.0 update makes this whole process even more powerful.

Why This Is Important: Understanding What People Want

Just jamming keywords into your writing doesn't work anymore. To get noticed by Google, your content needs to cover a topic well. You have to really understand what people are looking for.

Content gaps are big chances to get ahead. A gap might be a topic you haven't written about, or a page that's too simple compared to others. The trick is to think about why someone is searching. We can break this down into steps:

  • See (Learning Stage): People are just learning about something. Give them helpful blog posts and guides that answer basic questions. Don't try to sell them anything yet.
  • Think (Thinking Stage): Now they're looking at their options. Show them comparisons and case studies to prove you can help.
  • Do (Doing Stage): They're ready to make a choice. Give them clear pages that make it easy to buy or sign up.
  • Care (Loyalty Stage): Take care of the customers you have. Give them help articles and tips to make them want to come back.

When you plan your content this way, you're meeting people where they are. And with AI search getting bigger, your writing needs to be clear, correct, and easy to read. You need to show that you have E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness).

Step 1: Get Your Information with Screaming Frog

Good thinking starts with good information. Screaming Frog (@screamingfrog) is the main tool for scanning websites to pull out useful info like web addresses, titles, and how many words are on a page. You can connect it to Google Analytics and Search Console to see how well your pages are doing. This gives you a full list of all your content.

What It Does:

  • Finds Tech Problems: It spots things like pages with too little content or broken links.
  • Pulls Page Info: It grabs titles and headers to give you a quick check of your content.
  • Groups Similar Content: It works with AI to find pages that are alike. This helps stop your own pages from competing with each other. The new v22.0 makes this easier than ever. Learn more here.

The goal is to make this a process that runs on its own. For a full guide, see Screaming Frog's own post on content gap analysis.

Step 2: Get Ideas with NotebookLM

Once you have your info from Screaming Frog, it's time to use NotebookLM (@NotebookLM). You can upload your files, reports, and notes about your customers. This helps "teach" the AI about your world so it gives you good ideas that fit your plan.

How to Use It:

  1. Give it Your Info: Upload all your files to make one smart source.
  2. Ask Smart Questions: Talk to the AI to find opportunities.
  3. Turn Ideas into Action: The AI will give you outlines and even first drafts to get you started.

Step 3: Making Great Content

Now that you have great ideas from NotebookLM, it's time to write content that gives people exactly what they want. Set up your writing so it's easy to read with clear headings, lists, and tables.

Rules for Making Content:

  • Show You Can Be Trusted: Make sure your content shows you've done your homework and know what you're talking about.
  • Have a Clear Plan: Use headings in a clear order (H1, H2, H3) to make it easy for people and Google to read.
  • Become the Expert: Create groups of pages on one topic, with one main page linking to smaller, detailed pages.
  • Link Your Pages Smartly: Use links that describe what people will find when they click.

The Full Plan: A Cycle of Always Getting Better

When you put it all together, you get a strong cycle that you can repeat to keep improving:

  1. Scan your site with Screaming Frog.
  2. Teach NotebookLM with your data and plans.
  3. Ask the AI to find gaps for each stage of the customer journey.
  4. Create content for people, not robots, based on the ideas.
  5. Track how it does, check the results, and do it all again.

This system does the boring work for you, finds great ideas, and gives you an advantage.
