Ford Fairlane Emblem Re-creation

Ford Fairlane Emblem Re-creation

This project was a first for me. A friend of a friend needed a rare Ford emblem recreated for his Ford Fairlane, which he takes to car shows.

Here's the original emblem from the car - obviously very corroded.

Below is my recreation, printed on reflective paper using the OKI C942 to be able to lay down white toner. I used Illustrator to trace over the image above. The angles and curves had to be extremely precise – this is one of those projects that exercises the purely technical chops. I cut out the finished emblem by hand using an X-Acto and straight edge. Getting those tiny corner curves was quite a challenge.

And here's the recreated emblem on the car, in its housing with a plastic cover over it. It doesn't have the slight relief that the original had, but it's a reasonable simulation (especially when covered by plastic) and it was printed at a much lower cost than any type of 3D printing - roughly $1 for the reflective media and 30¢ for the toner.

And now the car is ready to be shown again.
