From 1 to many content pieces

Dear CreatingReorganizer,

I was asked in my DM, how I can create multiple content pieces from one #podcast episode (referring to my #PostdocTransformation show).

I will answer this more broadly, because business owners don’t always have a podcast (although it’s a great marketing channel).

You can do this “content propagation”) with all long-form video or audio content, also a LinkedIn live or any recorded Zoom session, when you are invited as a guest and answered questions or vice versa (but then you run a show) and get the raw video or audio.

In the day of AI, people crave for real inspiring and human voices.

So, for me as a #podcaster, the goal is to interview interesting people who inspire my audience for roughly an hour. As I am always interviewing leaders (seasoned or aspiring), their verbal communication skills are significantly above average. And their experience is a gem for my audience and me.

But it’s not a monologue I cannot direct. I ask questions that are interesting to my audience, that feed into an overarching theme of that episode, and my guests answer them in 1-4 minutes. Then I can extract one question plus answer as a social clip (and written text post or quote image or video etc.), and space out dropping these gems in my scheduling app (Later, use my affiliate link to get perks: https://later.com/r/eleonore-38accb). The possibilities are endless and we already discussed content pieces in previous newsletters.

Let’s break down the steps for you:

1)      I spend a lot of time (together with my students or podcasting interns) to identify and follow our potential guests on LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. They must fulfill certain criteria and display in their posts certain values to be asked by us for an interview. This is huge in terms of niche and in terms of authenticity, I need to vibe with the guest to ask them questions for them to shine.

2)      Based on our information gathered in the first step, I then ask our guests to be interviewed. They say yes in 100% times, but it’s also a matter of timing. We often have to reschedule for human reasons, so using a calendar tool is essential.

3)      In Typeform (use my affiliate link for perks: https://typeform.cello.so/FxXD1YT3V9z), I prepare my guests with some overarching questions based on the show category or angle from which I want to interview them, and they can also determine what they want to talk about before we record. I have extra landing pages per show category, so if they say yes to me, they had the chance to inform themselves.

Steps 1-3 are ongoing.

4)      I batch record my interviews remotely in Squadcast (acquired by Descript): quarterly and more interviews than we can fit into a season of roughly 12 episodes. All parties have little time on our hands and preparation is key.

5)      We use Descript (you can use my affiliate link to get perks: https://get.descript.com/83zw2yadn7jl) to edit all our interviews and solo episodes. Here’s where AI comes into play: Full transcript in seconds, #EditForClarity in under 3 minutes (my manual effort to achieve essentially the same rough cut is 4-8 hours (I don’t enjoy editing my solo episodes, which I did in the beginning, before Descript I delegated my solo episodes to my interns and that took them a day, too). So, it’s a huge time saver. I then spent 1 h for the fine cut, adding my commercials to my own business and affiliate partners. I listen to the combined cut, even if my team member did the rough cut, as I sometimes need to record a new transition from one question to another for having a logical listening experience.

6)      Then I send the final audio to my guest for final approval, ask for a photo for the cover, and all links we shall include in the show notes (just one click from Descript).

7)      At best we are 1-3 weeks before the publication date. Even my team and I are human (and we are all bound to the exam schedules, as I am a professor, working mom and they are students), we managed to get an episode out weekly for a season. We are finishing season 4 soon to prepare season 5. I am so proud of our team success. We go through steps 1-7, as we are able to do so.

8)      Once we get the guest’s change requests and finally the approval, we start the process to create the cover image, thumbnails etc. So, a creative app is essential.

9)      We rearrange the full transcript on ActiveCampaign (you can use my affiliate link for perks: https://get.thinkific.com/give-a-month-program/?gam=b1a5dca9a5) for our also visually enhanced show notes (a dedicated page that is home to the guest episode, the latter embedded videos etc.)

10)   We then upload and schedule our approved audio to Podbean (you can use my affiliate link for perks https://www.podbean.com/start-unlimited-podcast?utm_campaign=esw&utm_source=affiliate&utm_medium=referral):, link to our show notes.

11)   We create a LinkedInNewsletter to inform that we dropped the episode (for PostdocTransformation). Let us know, if you want a dedicated CreatingReorganized Show as a video podcast, LOL)

12)   We post social clips, text-based videos, images on all our social media platforms.

Your homework:

Does this cycle sound feasible for you? How can you include and flesh that out in your own content creation process?

This is a feature we’re actively planning on implementing. Auto splitting a long video into many shorter pieces. Work once, post many.

Some one asked me about the Descript #EditForClarity feature, and here’s my demo video with “after” vs. “before”. (In my podcast #PostdocTransformation show you never hear me rambling too much, as I edited either manually or with #Descript.). You can even build a team like this ⬇️

Absolutely! Repurposing long-form video or audio content into multiple pieces is a great strategy to maximize reach and engagement
