From Begging for Jobs to Wearing the Hiring Badge
The hunger to be seen intensified.
It was as if my face was pressed against a glass window as I watched opportunities zoom by on the other side. I did not even know what I would say if someone finally looked my way.
You did not have to offer me a job, just acknowledge that I was here.
Like most of us, my socials had been a wasteland ever since I created my Facebook account in 2011. At one point, during this crisis of my job search, I subscribed to LinkedIn Premium and used the InMail feature to send perfect cold messages to people at companies (not hiring managers) I would have loved to work for. I said hello and shared my expertise on the off chance; they have a position within their organization. I had read somewhere that could work.
But each sent message felt like dropping a stone into an endless pit. Just the silence of being politely ignored.
So, I did something about it.
I lit a small fire online. I began to share the story of what I was doing. I had wanted to do it for a while, ever since Israel in 2018, when I wrote in a note to self:
I want the world to witness my musings.
My experience in Israel would have made for better content. But it is never too late.
The First Post
That first post in 2020 felt like walking onto a stage naked. I was an introvert selling my farm visits on the same pages where my friends knew me. I feared logging onto Facebook. I feared reading the notifications.
But I held on and as days stacked into weeks, my fear had thinned, and my courage grew.
My mind adjusted to the light. Messages began to trickle in. Strangers saw and understood. People who paid for the farm visits. There was never going back. I could not go back to that girl even if I wanted.
And from that, two things happened.
I was no longer afraid of online rejection. Not that they are still not scary, but because I have seen the risk is worth it.
My brand began to walk into rooms before I did. It knocked on doors I was not aware were there, and whispered to the decision-makers, you might not know me, but here is something I’ve built.
Can I share My Story Too?
Absolutely.
What feels like common sense to you is someone else's breakthrough.
You may have solved a problem, mastered a process, or seen a perspective that would save someone else years of trial and error. You think it is nothing special because you live it every day.
But someone is looking for that opportunity.
So, show up.
Tell the story in words or videos. Share the process.
The Internet is Not Crowded
And do not let anyone tell you the internet is crowded.
Someone is looking for what you can offer.
Shall we step into the light?
