In 1998, I had the profound experience of attending a live taping at Harpo Studios in Chicago of The Oprah Winfrey Show, featuring Erin Kramp — a woman facing a terminal diagnosis who had recorded hundreds of video messages for her young daughter. Witnessing Erin’s courage and intentional love in person left an indelible mark on me — a powerful reminder that stories, when shared authentically, can become enduring gifts that transcend generations.

Years later, in 2020, while serving as a judge for the UK Charity Virtual Awards, I encountered The Swan Song Project — a UK-based initiative helping individuals create lasting, personal musical legacies. Its mission moved me to tears. It reinforced a powerful truth: legacy is not measured by fame or accolades, but by preserving voices, memories, and hope for those who come after us.

These experiences planted a seed: Our voices can live on — not just in memory, but in service to others.
