From Dreamer to Creator in tech: My Journey with Build School

From Dreamer to Creator in tech: My Journey with Build School

For as long as I can remember, I harbored a burning desire to create something impactful in the tech world. I dreamed of building innovative products that could make life easier, more enjoyable, and more productive for people. Yet, there was a persistent obstacle standing in my way: I didn’t know how to code.

As a non-tech person, the idea of diving into programming languages felt daunting, almost impossible. My dreams seemed just out of reach, confined to the realm of “what ifs.”

Then, I discovered BuildSchool , a beacon of hope for aspiring product builders like me. Skeptical yet hopeful, I decided to take the plunge. Little did I know, this decision would transform my life in ways I never imagined. Yeah, I know, it sounds like a place where they teach you how to actually build a school. But stick with me!

The Dream vs. Reality

You know, I’ve always wanted to build a tech product. I mean, who hasn’t? Watching those cool guys who code like superheroes (tak tak tak tak, keyboard sound), while I am over here trying to figure out how to turn on your computer.

As a non-tech person, my idea of coding was zero. I didnt know what is "JavaScript", I only knew Java the bike. How was I supposed to build tech products when my only experience with Python was in avoiding one when I see one in Mangalore.

Discovering Build School

Then, one day, I stumbled upon Build School. It was like discovering a cheat code for life. There was this person in round straw hat Prashant Sharma promised to turn non-techies like me into tech wizards without making us write a single line of code (cannot believe it right). I thought, “Great! Finally, a way to build apps without feeling like I’m defusing a bomb by cutting the wires with sword using one hand.”

Embracing the No-Code Revolution

From day one, Build School was amazing. Mentors were amazing who taught me all about AI and no-code tools. No-code tools! It’s like building a house with LEGO instead of actual bricks. Suddenly, the tech world wasn’t this scary place.

Building My First Apps

So, I decided to dive in, learnt everything about no-code tools and built four apps. Let me tell you about them:

  1. Pomodoro Timer: My first project was a simple yet effective Pomodoro timer. It was designed to help people manage their time better, boosting productivity through the renowned Pomodoro Technique. Building this app was a pivotal moment, proving to myself that I could translate an idea into a functional product.

  1. 2. A Game for My Son: Next, I wanted to create something personal, a game for my son. This project was more than just an app; it was a way to connect with him through technology. Watching his excitement as he played the game I built filled me with pride and reinforced my belief in the power of creation.

3. Image Generator: Then, I created my own text to image generator. Now who doesn't want to build this. This one was all about AI creating unique visuals using Flux Lora model Integrating with Replicate API. It was exhilarating to see AI come to life in a project I had designed from scratch.

  1. 4. Writers Blockbuster: My most ambitious project was Writers Blockbuster, an AI-powered writing tool to help aspiring writers turn ideas into publish-ready content in two minutes. Because who has time to write? It’s like having a personal assistant who actually gets your weird plot twists. I believed that everyone should write and share your ideas to the world. We just demoed this product in front of 400+ amazing audience.

Building Writer's BlockBuster with a Non-Tech Team

But here’s the kicker, I built all this with an amazing team Parth Vyas Vinay Patil Devendra Pareek who are also from non-tech backgrounds. It was like assembling the Avengers without superhero costume, but everyone’s superpower is “I can talk to chatgpt.” We proved that you don’t need to be a coding genius to create something awesome. Just a lot of caffeine and maybe some therapy. We all met in the Build School cohort and decided to work together.

Looking Ahead

Now, we’ve built Writer's BlockBuster, and we’re not stopping. We’re like the Fantastic 4 of app development. We’re committed to solving major problems with more products, which is great because I’ve got ideas and maybe a few too many (actually huge list).

In the end, Build School didn’t just teach me how to build apps, it taught me that I could build my dreams, one no-code block at a time. Thanks to Prashant Sharma Krishna Kumar Ritesh Hegde Vatsal Sanghvi Sriram R Shreyas Prakash Vaibhav Sisinty ↗️ and to all the community members of Build School.

So, to all the non-tech dreamers out there, keep pushing, keep creating, and remember: even if your first app is a Pomodoro timer, you’re already ahead of the game. Thank you, and happy app-building!

Wow! What a story of discovery, hope, and achievement! It's great to hear that you were able to achieve your dream of building tech products despite not knowing how to code. Your four apps, including the Pomodoro timer, game for your son, image generator, and AI-powered writing tool, all sound impressive. It's even more impressive that you were able to build them with a team of non-tech individuals. Congratulations on your success, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours SUKIN SHETTY!
