From Good to Great Prompts: Introduction of the Expert Prompt Generator

When I first started exploring generative AI tools like ChatGPT, I quickly realized one thing: the output quality is only as good as the input you provide. A weak prompt? Expect a mediocre response. But a well-crafted, thoughtful prompt? That’s where the magic happens.

In the video below, I introduce a tool I developed to tackle this exact challenge: the Expert Prompt Generator. It’s a GPT I built using OpenAI’s platform to help anyone—from curious beginners to seasoned AI enthusiasts—create high-quality, structured prompts with ease.

Why Prompt Engineering Matters

Prompt engineering isn’t just about phrasing a question the right way. It’s about structuring your request so precisely that the AI knows exactly what to deliver. Over time, I’ve observed that experienced prompt engineers tend to rely on three foundational techniques:

  1. Chain-of-Thought Prompting This involves guiding the AI through a logical sequence of steps to perform a task. Instead of just saying, “Write a blog post,” you specify the steps: research, outline, draft, and refine. This approach significantly improves clarity and output quality.
  2. Few-Shot Prompting Here, you provide examples of the kind of output you expect. Think of it like giving the AI a “model answer” to follow. It helps align the output style and tone with your expectations.
  3. Rule-Based Prompting Sometimes, the AI needs guardrails. In rule-based prompting, you define specific rules it must follow—like staying within a word count, avoiding certain jargon, or formatting the output in a particular way.

By combining these three methods, prompt engineers are able to produce consistently higher-quality results. But let’s be honest: crafting these complex prompts can be time-consuming and even intimidating.

The Problem: Prompt Fatigue is Real

Writing one well-structured prompt might be manageable. But when you’re producing content regularly or using AI across multiple tasks, creating these detailed prompts over and over can become a bottleneck. That’s exactly the problem I set out to solve with the Expert Prompt Generator.

The Solution: A GPT That Builds Expert Prompts for You

With this tool, you don’t need to manually write out a multi-layered prompt anymore. You simply provide your base task—for example, “Create a blog post on using generative AI for marketing”—and the Expert Prompt Generator takes it from there.

It automatically:

  • Breaks down the task into step-by-step instructions (chain-of-thought),
  • Adds examples to guide the output (few-shot),
  • Includes rules to control structure and tone (rule-based).

The end result is a fully formed, high-level prompt that you can copy-paste into ChatGPT or any other LLM interface. And the difference in output quality is immediate and impressive.

A Real Example in Action

In the video, I walk through a live demo. I input a basic task—writing a blog post about how to use generative AI for productivity and marketing. The tool quickly generated:

  • A structured approach for writing the post,
  • A couple of example outputs to emulate,
  • Clear formatting and content rules.

I then copied this full prompt into ChatGPT, hit “Enter,” and watched as it produced a well-structured, insightful blog post—far better than what you'd get from a basic query. It was a vivid illustration of how better prompting = better AI performance.

Try It—and Let Me Know How It Goes

If you’re working with generative AI and you’ve ever felt stuck or underwhelmed by the output, give the Expert Prompt Generator a try. You’ll be amazed by how much of a difference structured prompting can make.

And if you use it? I’d love to see what you create. Tag me in your posts or drop me a message—it's always inspiring to see how people innovate with tools like this.

People don’t go the extra mile because of their job. They do it because of who leads them.
