Global Expertise Meets Local Action
From expanding access to medicines during wartime to evaluating new treatments in resource-constrained hospitals, health leaders worldwide are making tough decisions every day. In today’s newsletter, see how MSH works alongside country partners to share practical experience, adapt proven approaches, and support solutions rooted in local priorities. The results? Smarter investments, stronger systems, and healthier communities.
Forecasting What Matters: Saving Women's Lives
Postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the top causes of maternal death globally. In line with recently revised World Health Organization guidelines, Management Sciences for Health has updated its Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Forecasting Supplement—available in English and French—to help countries accurately estimate their needs for lifesaving maternal health products.
Ukraine Pilots Hospital-Based HTA for Cardiac Care
Ukraine’s first hospital-based Health Technology Assessment is under way at the Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery, evaluating the clinical and economic value of advanced cardiac procedures. Supported by USAID’s SAFEMed Activity, led by MSH, this initiative helps hospital leaders make smarter, data-driven investments in lifesaving care.
Training Patient Advocates to Influence Access
Access to innovative treatments often lags for patients with rare and non-communicable diseases—but patient voices can change that. Through the Evidence-Based Policy and Advocacy Academy, developed in partnership with Sanofi , we’re equipping patient advocacy groups in Türkiye and beyond to engage in health technology assessments and champion more equitable, value-based health care.
Strategic Recommendations for Sustaining HIV Responses
A new policy brief outlines key strategies for maintaining HIV services amid shifts in external funding—highlighting the need for greater domestic investment, integration into national health systems, and a strong focus on people-centered care for key and vulnerable populations. As MSH’s Sarah Konopka puts it: "This moment calls for commitment, collaboration, and courage."
Strengthening the Health Supply Chain Workforce
MSH experts contributed to a new supplement published in Global Health: Science and Practice Journal , highlighting critical lessons and innovations in building the health supply chain workforce. Led by the People that Deliver Coalition , the series shares tools and case studies for long-term systems resilience.
Ukraine’s Affordable Medicines Program is expanding—and saving lives
Despite the challenges of war, the Ministry of health of Ukraine and the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) continue to strengthen access to essential treatments through the Affordable Medicines Program—a government-funded reimbursement system for vital prescription drugs. Since 2017, USAID’s Safe, Affordable, and Effective Medicines for Ukrainians (SAFEMed) activity, implemented by Management Sciences for Health , has partnered with the Government of Ukraine to strengthen pharmaceutical systems, improve access to essential medicines, and drive health system reforms.
