Going deep with our clients- how deep is deep enough?

Our clients have many layers waiting to be discovered- as per the photo above. How do we know how deep to dig? Often discovering new layers is very uncomfortable, and is necessary for the clients growth- but that is OUR opinion- not theirs.

And it is important to remind ourselves that our opinion doesn't matter- our client's opinion REALLY matters. So it doesn't matter how deep we think our client should go- what matters is how deep THEY think they should go. And we find that by gentle probing.

Can we encourage them to go deeper? Certainly. What will help them to explore further, is if they feel very safe with you. And that safety cannot be built overnight- so take your time to help your client feel safe, and then you can encourage them to go deeper-with you alongside them.
