The Great Reshuffle Doesn't Exist; Workers Are Seeking A Better Culture

Flexibility & Work-Life Balance tops the reason why we have a 'Great Reshuffle'. When employers offer a flexible work environment, it's reported by LinkedIn that employees are 2.6x more likely to be happy at work and therefore twice as likely to recommend working at their Company to friends and family. This is an important factor given some of our best co-workers and employees in an organization come from referrals.

The 9-5 is no more. Or at least if an organization insists that employees must login or arrive and leave at specified times, they will be left behind in the movement that is a reinvention of the modern workplace. It seems as though organizations are cluing into the draw of flexible work, given that company posts on LinkedIn mentioning flexibility are up 3.5x compared to 2019.

Not all jobs can offer such flexibility; retail stores open and close at specified times. This doesn't mean flexible work cannot be factored into the culture of the organization. Split shifts, on call for part time workers. the ability to have a enough staff that if someone needs to leave for the day; all of these are methods to offer workers the ability to flex to their individual lifestyles while still maintaining operational efficiency.

While offering a flexible work environment is one of the most critical offerings that workers are now seeking, it's also very important to note that the culture reflects other needs such as inclusion and the care factor. You've likely heard of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs; fulfilling the belonging and esteem values by fostering a truly inclusive and supportive culture, employers can benefit from almost a four-fold increase in employers recommending their employer to friends, family and their network. From the years I have spent in Talent Acquisition, I can attest to the benefit that a referral can provide, especially experienced, highly qualified passive candidates- your employers and co-workers are an extension of the Talent Acquisition experience.

Drilling down to a Provincial level, British Columbia forecasts over one million jobs over the next 10 years. With a 5.3% unemployment rate and more tech related vacancies in an already saturated market, company culture, flexibility and work-life balance is set to be the driving factor in attracting the best talent for your organization's success.

For some front line positions, it's not just flexibility. It's stability in hours and knowing what your schedule will be well in advance. This way employees can make their life plans around their work schedule instead of being called in at the last moment, or only finding out a week in advance.
