Ground Breaking Legacy Set For Sydney
The final countdown has begun for Sibos 2018, with ICC Sydney welcoming the event in only a matter of days.
While this high impact event is expected to generate well in excess of A$40 million in economic impact, it has the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy that permeates through the entire community of our city.
Sibos is a multifaceted event that requires support and services from businesses across Sydney and New South Wales, resulting in benefits that reach beyond both Darling Harbour and Sydney, and out into regional towns. From freight and logistics to creative industries, such as florists and live performers, to local restaurants and the regional producers that supply to them, there are positive impacts that ripple well and truly beyond our city-centre borders.
From our very first engagement, Sibos has also placed legacy at the forefront of their event planning – alongside experience and innovation. They have embraced our Legacy Program while also implementing their own legacy-focused initiatives that will see delegates experience some of the best of our home grown produce and talent.
Beginning in the ICC Sydney kitchen, our commitment to supporting regional NSW farmers is a focus on Sibos menus. The bespoke menus will celebrate the finest locally sourced produce and puts regional suppliers, from the likes of Orange, the Southern Highlands, the Hawkesbury and the Riverina, on the plates and minds of our global guests. Local winemakers will also make their mark and feature predominately on the event’s wine lists. The newly crowned 2018 Orange Wine Show Awards Best Chardonnay, Mrs Payton by Swinging Bridge, is just one of the wines on our 83 per cent NSW strong wine list that delegates will enjoy.
Tying into one of our Legacy Program streams, Generation Next, students are set to take to the Sibos stage for the annual SWIFT Institute Challenge. In an example of their support for up and coming bright minds, eight teams from five Australian universities will present their solutions to the global Sibos audience for securing personal information in an open application programming interface (API) environment. The international exposure and networking opportunities is an unparalleled career experience for these university students.
Lastly, Sibos has placed an environmentally sustainable lens over their entire event. The partnership between ICC Sydney and Sibos is resulting in new initiatives, including the repurposing of items, particularly from exhibition stands, which is where the largest opportunity for recycling exists for our industry. Minimising the environmental impact of events is at the heart of ICC Sydney’s operations and we are proud of our sustainability collaboration with Sibos.
Our Legacy Program, coupled with Sibos’ thorough approach, will deliver legacies to the city of Sydney that will continue to be felt long after the event departs from our shores.
This is such an amazing project! Just awe-inspiring!
