Have you seen a six-foot-tall Amaranth (苋菜 )?
Have you seen a six-foot-tall Amaranth (苋菜 )?
Amaranth is a common Asian vegetable, also known as Chinese spinach, sold at Asian grocery markets for $3-$6 per pound. It is sauteed or used in soups.
I planted some seeds in my small vegetable garden last year and harvested some small plants. They returned this year and, for some unknown reason, began to grow taller, reaching approximately six feet tall. It could be the heat wave in Connecticut or the ten-ten-ten fertilizer I added.
I also planted tomato, gou-qi 苟琦, cucumbers, and chives 韭菜, though they were completely overwhelmed by the giant Amaranths.
I plan to harvest them next week!

2moMichael, my garden is growing bigger and taller this year. We had an abnormally hot May. I think that is the cause. However, nothing in my garden is as big as your Amaranth!
