Health Promotion and Wellness Coach helps Medicare member feel supported and heard

Rebecca Roberts, a Health Promotion and Wellness Coach, recently assisted a member in creating a better foundation for overall health improvement. Health Coaching is currently available to eligible members who are enrolled in a Select Health Medicare Advantage + Kroger plan.

The 72-year-old member was new to the Select Health Medicare Advantage plan. Initially nervous about the transition, they expressed how smooth and positive the experience has been, thanks to Rebecca’s support.

During coaching sessions, the member consistently shared updates and expressed deep appreciation for having someone to talk to. Rebecca helped the member create a clear, actionable plan to improve their health, which the member described as a valuable source of support outside of their own family.

“This story is a wonderful example of how health coaching can support the whole person,” said Liz O’Gara, Health Promotion and Wellness Manager. “A proactive, personalized approach like Rebecca’s makes a meaningful difference through health outcomes and in how members perceive our company. Health coaching goes beyond clinical support and empowers members in every aspect of their well-being, ultimately increasing their trust and satisfaction with Select Health.”

Once Rebecca helped the member create a plan, the member:

  • Met with a functional medicine doctor who helped safely reduce vitamin intake to begin a new medication.

  • Found an orthopedic surgeon and scheduled a hip replacement.

  • Received new prescription glasses, despite having complex eye issues.

  • Began physical therapy in preparation for surgery.

  • Used their grocery benefits and learned about additional resources available through their Select Health Medicare Advantage plan.

“What stood out to me most was this member’s strong sense of purpose,” Rebecca shared. “They are passionate about the work they do in their free time for a nonprofit and have a strong desire to stay healthy so they can keep working. Once we created a plan together, they got to work. This member takes pride in making a difference in the world, which is a powerful motivator and truly inspiring.”

It's inspiring to see such a transformative journey. Rebecca's dedication truly showcases the impact of personalized health coaching. This story not only emphasizes the importance of support during transitions but also highlights the commitment of Intermountain Health to empower its members. Kudos to the entire team for making a difference in lives! https://hi.switchy.io/WNnS
