Hiring and Growing at Dynamo with Natalie Lapointe

The growing FinTech sector is a land of opportunity for those in search of a dynamic and challenging career. But, not every tech company evaluates new hire candidates the same. Learning about a company’s values before applying can provide insight into what future development opportunities may exist.

In our latest Ask the Expert interview, we spoke with Senior Talent Partner Natalie Lapointe to explore what Dynamo looks for in new hires and how HR engages with managers and candidates to ensure a best fit for long-term growth and success. Learn what she had to say in this Dynamo Q&A.

Q: Natalie, can you describe the hiring philosophy and approach to hiring at Dynamo?

At Dynamo, hiring is not necessarily about just filling a role.

It's about finding the right people who will not only thrive within our culture, but really play a key role in our shared success as an organization.

I think that we are very intentional about our approach to recruitment. We want to really make sure that the hire that we bring onto the team is aligned, not only from a technical perspective, but will also fit in very well with Dynamo’s culture.

We have a pretty strong belief that the best teams are always built on the shared drive to solve complex problems and be adaptable, so that's why we look at candidates beyond just their personal skill sets.

We look for individuals who are really excited about making an impact and growing with us as well as helping to shape the future of our products and processes internally.

Hiring at Dynamo is really a partnership between our HR team as well as our hiring managers. Alongside our candidates, we really want to make sure that it feels like a transparent process and both of these parties are finding the best mutual fit for the new hire.

Q: What’s the candidate experience like at Dynamo?

We really prioritize a positive candidate experience throughout our hiring process. That means for us, we try to ensure transparency at every stage of our hiring process and really strong communication between our candidates and our HR team.

Candidates can expect a structured process and communication throughout each step and interview from our team. Throughout the entering process, we try to offer a range of ways for you to show your skills to us.

Many candidates express frustration with being "ghosted" by companies or recruiters during the hiring process. At Dynamo, we prioritize creating a respectful and transparent experience from the very first interaction. We believe trust and respect are the foundations of strong relationships, and they begin with open and considerate communication.

We'll typically have a mix of more conversational interviews for you to meet directly with the team members that you would potentially be working with, as well as an opportunity to show off some of your more technical skills in our assessments.

Additionally, we train our teams to evaluate candidates holistically, so we're going to both look at your skills as well as figure out if you are at the right cultural add rather than just looking at a checklist of qualifications of our candidates.

Q: How does Dynamo invest in employees’ career development?

We are investing in our employees’ long-term success by offering different sorts of career pathing opportunities, taking a really individualized approach for each of our employees. We want to make sure that their training and leadership development is curated for the pathway that they are personally interested in for their own career. We have development opportunities for our managers as well, providing different sorts of trainings to help them develop their teams effectively.

We try to keep compensation and career progressions as key areas of focus for our HR team and ensuring that our employees feel valued and motivated to grow with us within our company. Our approach is not really about just filling roles here — it's more about building careers over a lifetime with Dynamo.
