Their goal was clear: replace time-consuming, manual grain analysis methods with a fast, reliable, and automated solution that could match laboratory-level accuracy.
This required not only technical expertise in AI/ML and image processing, but also a tailored desktop application that could run offline, operate in real-time, and easily integrate into their broader offering.
Turning scanned grains into Structured Insights
The solution required far more than just building a machine learning model. We needed to accurately identify and segment rice grains from scanned images, extract detailed metadata such as grain height, width, color, and position, and export this information into readable reports within minutes.
Moreover, the application had to capture individual grain images for traceability, and run entirely on-premise with minimal user intervention. This meant achieving a fine balance between model complexity, system performance, and usability.
AI-Powered desktop software built for speed and accuracy
FiftyFive Technologies built a full-cycle solution using Mask R-CNN for precise object detection and segmentation. We customized the model’s parameters and trained it on industry-specific datasets to ensure it could distinguish even the smallest variations in grain morphology.
The application was developed using Python, .NET Core 6, and SQLite, offering a clean, user-friendly interface for scanning samples and generating CSV-based test reports - all in under two minutes.
