How to break down your vision and dream life into tangible actions.
To me, our values represent how we want to live our life and our goals represent what we want from it. It's important to break goals, dreams and visions down to a day to day basis, to break them down to smaller, more tangible steps. After all, it is the things we do on a day to day basis that is our life, or as my inspiration Robin Sharma so poetically puts it:
“A great life is nothing more than a series of days well lived strung together like a string of pearls.”
For the past few years I have had a document that I tracked every day. The document consisted of a staggering 30 daily goals and 10 values that I read every morning and graded myself on from 1 to 10 every night while looking back at how I behaved and what I did that day. It was a very powerful exercise. In a way, this document was my recipe for the life I wanted to live. It was my vision, segmented into concrete actions. For several reasons I lost track of it for some time, but I decided to get back in the driver seat and to create a fresh version to guide me towards the life I desire, although this one would be more focused. I decided I would have no more than five core value groups and the daily goals shrank to 15.
Structuring my goals and values in this way gives me a feeling of control of my life. Breaking down the vision of my best life to smaller concrete actions makes it feel more attainable. It gives me the feeling that I am in charge of where I am going, it gives me focus and ownership of my own life. The tracking helps me realize if I am advancing or not, it reminds me and it pushes me forward. I cannot recommend it enough. If you’re interested, I attach my own goals and values as an example.
Go get your dream life!
