How can doing less all at once can get you further?

How can doing less all at once can get you further?

Sunday mornings are made for slower thinking.

Feet up, brew in hand, and that momentary illusion that next week is going to be the one where you finally get on top of everything.

Except… if your weeks are anything like mine used to be, they probably start full of plans and end full of half finished projects, unanswered emails, and a mild sense of “what just happened?”

Let me tell you how it’s changed for me (and lots of my clients too): Focus on just one thing a day.

Not ten. Not even three. Just one. The One Thing that, if done, would make everything else a bit easier or less stressful.

So why just one thing?

Because when everything feels like it needs to be done right now, nothing gets your full attention. You end up bouncing between emails, meetings, and ‘quick tasks’… …and somehow it’s 4pm and you’ve still not touched the important thing that you were going to get done today.

Choosing your One Thing gives your day purpose. It gives you a single point of focus. And most importantly? It helps you finish the day with a win.

Jess and her price file

One of my lovely clients (Jess) had been meaning to update her pricing guide for months. Every week it got copied to the next to-do list. And every week something more urgent cropped up.

So we made it her One Thing for Tuesday. I cleared her inbox that morning, protected the time in her diary, and gently nudged her when she started to veer off track (as we all do) with check-ins a couple of times over the morning.

I would usually recommend putting the phone in flight mode, switching of email, and removing yourself from all other distractions but Jess wasn’t quite ready for this change just yet. So we went with plan B and at each check in anything that was distracting her got handed over or rescheduled to make sure Jess could get on with the job in hand.

By 11:15am, it was done. All updated and uploaded. We both did a little happy dance.

What’s your One Thing?

It doesn’t need to be ground-breaking. It might be:

✏️ Writing the intro to your newsletter

📁 Finally sorting those client folders

📞 Booking that call you’ve been putting off

🧠 Or simply setting 90 minutes aside to think, without interruption

Write it down tonight. Scribble it on a sticky note or set a calendar reminder. Then when Monday rolls around, start there, before you even open the inbox and the daily distractions descend.

And if the reason you can’t focus on your One Thing is…

…because you’re stuck in the daily cycle of emails, rescheduling, formatting documents, or chasing paperwork, this is where I can help.

I support business owners like you to protect their time by managing the background noise.

Whether it’s inbox triage, diary smoothing, content polishing, or file organisation, I help create space for you to do your best work and not just all the work.
