How To Develop Razor Sharp Focus

How To Develop Razor Sharp Focus

Do you struggle to get through your to-do list on a daily basis? Do you always feel like you are running against the clock? Are you wishing that you had a better memory and could have razor sharp focus?

The fact is, we live in a world of constant notifications, distractions and information overload, sometimes it is hard to stay focused and even harder to get sh** done. I am constantly struggling against the temptation to reply to emails as soon as they ping in and reaching for my phone every time it buzzes.

Somedays I am in such a state of overwhelm I literally can’t focus at all. The end of the day rolls around and I think back - what did I actually achieve today?

This is why I sought out Singapore’s only Grand Master of Memory, Nishant Kasibhatla. Nishant is a Guinness World Record Holder, has memorised a 1944 digit number and a random deck of cards in 1 min 50 seconds!

This man knows how to focus and in this video, he can help you to attain peak mental performance and boost your productivity.

Here are a few of Nishant’s Wedges of Wisdom:

  1. Firstly, you need to make sure you have the physical and mental energy - you need to have enough sleep and you need to take care of your body. If you mentally don’t have fuel, even the best techniques in the world won’t work.
  2. Secondly, identify your big life and work goals and work backwards from there.
  3. Multi-tasking doesn’t work! The best way to focus is single-tasking, doing one thing at a time and doing it really well.
  4. Make time for meditation. Through meditation and simply focusing on your breath, you will become more aware, alert and focused.
  5. And to combat overwhelm - it is “The 3 / 25 / 0 Method” :
    • 3 - Take 3 deep breaths to get into the focus zone.
    • 25 - Set a timer on 25 minutes and start totally focusing on one task only.
    • 0 - in those 25 minutes, say absolutely NO to all distractions.
  6. Say NO more often! Say no, to things that do not matter to you, your goals and to things that ultimately kill your focus.

What is knowledge without a little bit of action? Pick one of these awesome tips and implement it into your day today. Let me know how you go, if you are able to focus more so you can get the most out of your day or if you have tips of your own.

Live more consciously.

Thanks for the article! On Saturdays, I've been working with a timer - 45min-50min sets with a 10-15 minute break after. I do this at home doing chores (cleaning, sorting, running around) and on the computer (both for working and looking at Pinterest, reading articles, etc). It's a good way to prevent the rabbit hole syndrome of looking at things online or getting distracted by something and losing an entire morning - at least I'll get a reminder of time's up when the alarm goes. I like chunking the work into those time slots too. Will try 25 minutes of more intense concentration!

Love the 25 min timer idea👍 I also put my phone out of reach to prevent looking at it.
