How do we pass on ways to be more sustainable for next generations to lead, & the need to make changes now to ensure a better future.

I was invited to speak at the Ireland Fund #GlobalLeadershipSeries Tues 20th Nov at the 'Walkie Talkie' on Fenchurch St London, so I selected 10 tips to pass on to the next generation. They will need to make real changes both Politically and in our daily lives for a sustainable future - as they can't rely on the status quo...........same old same old inaction.

If there is something you feel strongly about rise up and make your views clear to sort the problem. My campaign dress #DropTheBan is now in the Museum of London.

We made the Film "Designing for Champions" capturing the spirit of London 2012 and interviewed all architects and engineers at the Olympic Park who designed the most sustainable Olympics and Paralympics to date.

In 2000 I chaired RIBA Women In Architecture part of Architects for Change. We instigated the DiverseCity exhibition which went on to show at 34 Cities worldwide promoting the best of Women and Bame architects and gathering more exhibition panels at each stop along its world tour over 6 years #Globalsnowball.

Beware the #ImposterSyndrome - Believe in yourself and your potential and bring others along with you. As President of RIBA I took on the (unpaid) leadership position as a full time job for two years and campaigned on key issues facing our profession.

Everyone should join a board or a panel and give their expertise to help their colleagues and their professions. No panel- no voice - no say. You can make a difference.

Learning about other cultures is so important in understanding people place and history. Travel is the best education and sharing ideas and learning from each other.

If you have an expertise and want to gather other experts together about our sustainable future then write about it and make those words and advise accessible free on line.

Collaborating internationally and working together brings work and experiences together and more is learned on both sides about how to build sustainable cities.

Charity needs to be embraced by everyone to help those in need - it could be you one day that needs support.

Promoting Good Sustainable Design and how it can change our lives for the better is a passion of mine and something I promote on TV in past three shows Designing Ireland RTE, The Home Show CH 4, and Building the Dream ITV. With a carefully written and presented show you can reach a large audience.

Everyone has a creative side. I challenge everyone to have a go at art or a craft and spend 6 weeks once a week on a specific creative course. Its also good for mental health and you meet all sorts of interesting people. If you are any good you might be invited to donate some pictures for a charity auction like @Article25 #10x10 or #ArchitectsBenevolentSociety for good causes.

Adopt a school and tell the kids what you do for a career. Inspire them about the built environment or about how to cut their carbon footprint. I have held many creative workshops in schools for 20 years and taught kids about sustainable design which they then created fantastic imaginative projects - and since that time many have taken up architecture too. #HackneyBuildingExploratory #RIBA #RIAI #MuseumofIreland #HackneySchools #IslingtonSchools #GeorgeGreensSchool #StJoanOfArc
